Price arrived last week from Arp, Texas and are visiting in and around Lebanon. They made the trip via automobile, taking three days, and without mishap, not even a puncture. Jesse reported that crops in their sections are about half as large as last year. The visitors will be in Cleburne about three weeks. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, November 14, 1929 BLAKE THRASH IN HEFLIN JAIL Blake Thrash, about 25 years old, is in the Cleburne county jail charged with assault to murder in connection with the alleged shooting of Taft McCormack, age 19. The shooting occurred at about dark on Friday near Carr's Creek in Chulafinnee beat. Taft was shot without provocation, Henry Padgett, an eye witness, told Sheriff Rowell. The bullet from a .32 calibre pistol took effect under McCormack's left shoulder blade and ranged upward. The wounded youth was removed to an Anniston hospital after being brought to Heflin for examination. The wounded boy has been carried to his home in South Cleburne. Following the shooting, Thrash was arrested and brought to jail by George Thrower and Willie Striplin. ___ BORDEN SPRINGS News Mr. Isaac Wheeler who died in a Birmingham hospital was brought to Palestine last Friday morning for burial. Funeral service and interment being at Salem Church. Mr. Wheeler is survived by one daughter Mrs. Harry Griffith of Birmingham, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Joey Martin, one stepson, R.H. Williams of Birmingham and two brothers, Newton and T.R Wheeler of Borden Springs and Piedmont. __ Mrs. Willie Putnam was the guest of her sister Mrs. H.S. Miller last week. __ Mrs. G.E. Putnam wa the Thursday night guest of her daughter Mrs. H.S. Miller. __ CEDAR CREEK News Ernest McLeroy spent Friday night with Ogden McLeroy. __ Following the sale on Friday, Jabe Morrison and family will move to Texas. __ Mrs. Lee, son and daughter Woodson and Alice went to Carrollton on Sunday. _ Mrs. and Mrs. Bennie Cofield of Texas are visiting relatives in this community. ___ Ai News Mrs. Lizzie Weathers was the guest of Hamp Norton and family on Cane Creek last week. __ Bernice Warren spent a few days last week the guest of her uncle, J.W. Term 1929 This day came J.W. Fowler, executor of the estate of G.W. Fowler, deceased and filed his accounts, vouchers, evidence and statement for final settlement of his administration. It is ordered that the 9th day of December 1929 be appointed a day on which to make such settlement at which time all persons interested can appear and contest the said settlement if they think proper. (Big Jim) Norton of Heflin and widely known over the county, has intimated that he may enter the race for tax collector of Cleburne county for the 1930 primary. Numbers of his friends are urging him to enter the contest and should he decide to do so, he will announce early next year. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, November 28, 1929 PARKER - McNEILL Marriage The marriage of Mr. Edward Burns Parker to Mrs. Mary Oldham McNeill is announced as having occurred last Sunday afternoon in Opelika. After a few days spent in Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. Parker will be at home in Heflin. Mr. Parker was reared in Wedowee and for a number of years resided in Roanoke. Mrs. McNeill is the sister of Mrs. H.H. Cauthen and Miss Emmie Oldham of this place and is an attractive young matron. The many friends of this couple extend their congratulations.
