    1. Fw: PUCKETT-ROBERTS Families of GA, AL & TX
    2. Diane Ethridge
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Diane Ethridge I am researching the Andrew Jackson Puckett & Frances Roberts Puckett family of Coweta Co. GA. The children lived in Paulding, Carroll, Troup, Pickens, Greene & Forsyth Co. GA. Also in Southwest AR, Eastern AL & Upshur Co, TX. Andrew Jackson & Frances married in Coweta Co. in 1837. One of the sons had the name of "Tillero" & this unusual name was also found in the Davidson, King, Smith & McClain families of the same areas & time frame. The children of Andrew Jackson Puckett & Frances Roberts Puckett: 1. Elizabeth - was in the 1910 Troup Co. GA census, as Eliz Harris, living with dau, Mandy/Amanda (her name was Samuels so maybe she was marr before) & Mandy's husb, James Culbertson. Eliz was born in the White Oak Community in Coweta Co. In the 1870 Forsyth Co. Ga census, James & Eliz have a 10 yr old in the h/h named Eliza Jones. Wonder who she is? Maybe from another marriage? 2. Mary Ann - First marr was to a Marcus deLafayette Smith who died during the CW. Second marr to Wm Lawrence Hogan III in Randolph Co. AL. Buried in Carroll Co. GA. I am in touch with several of her desc. Have pictures. 3. Lucinda - married Peter E. Duncan/Dunkin - his 2nd marriage. Had one known dau, Margaret/Maggie (b 1868). Lucinda's husb, Peter Dunkin d 1879. She is living with her bro, Joseph Richard Puckett & w/Epsie (Grubbs) in the 1880 Haralson Co. GA census. In the 1900 Carroll Co. GA census, Maggie has my grandfather, who was her cousin, in the h/h. They are in the h/h of a Lattimer family. Don't know who they are & Lucinda isn't listed. By 1900, Joseph Richard & his family have moved to Columbia Co. AR but don't know if the ladies went with them. 4. John A. - married a Nell Fuller, moved to Upshur Co, TX in about 1888. Had at least one & maybe 2 other marriages. Had 3 children, Robert, Newt & Ida Frances. Ida married a "Nipper" in Upshur Co. In the 1910 U Co. census, his wife is a Martha. A grandson by the last name of Cornett in the h/h. In the 1930 U Co. census, John A. & his dau, Ida Frances, are living with a Johnnie & Mattie Nipper. 5. Wm Samuel - my line, I think I sent you that. Have pictures. 6. James Tillero/Tillaro/Tillerow - marr Eliza Clementine Duke went to Upshur/Camp/Wood Co, TX. Committed suicide. I have picture of Tillero & family. 7. Geo W. - married Ana/Anna Fuller in 1872. Had at least one other marr - maybe to a Barbara Ann? Died 1939 Carroll Co. GA, (Villa Rica) & buried in New Hope Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Villa Rica. 8. Joseph Richard - married Epsie Grubbs, in the 1880 Haralson Co. GA census. By about 1888, he had moved to Columbia Co. AR & think he went on to CA. Had another marriage. I am in touch with 3 of his desc. At least one of his children, (Andrew T.) went into LA. 9. Mittie A. - Married Pete Embrey/Embree. Found her as a widowed school teacher in the 1920 Pickens Co. GA census. She was in Troup Co. in 1880 & had daughters, Mary 21 , Sallie/Sarah 18, Tommie 13 & possibly an Effie 17. No husb at that time. 10. Andrew Phillip - died at 20 yrs of age of pneumonia. Have picture of him. Any info on these folks appreciated. Have info & pictures to share. Thanks, Diane P. Ethridge Conroe, TX

    2. Margie, I don't know how many records were thrown away. I can only verify the time period in which some old Cleburne County marriage records from the Cleburne County Probate Judge's office were thrown away at the City of Heflin "dump" as if they were trash. Lynda

    2. Cathy, Yes, the Probate Judge at that time, Monroe Lipscomb, and his chief clerk, Barbara Perkins, had old records thrown away. It is absolutely true. I have a thick file of documentation to support my complaints about this matter to the Alabama Department of Archives and History at that time, the replies, their correspondence back to Cleburne County Probate office, the replies, etc. It was beyond words that this happened! It first came to my attention when two dear, elderly ladies in Heflin called me to say that they had my ancestor's marriage record. They knew how much I value historical documents and how interested in genealogy I am, and they thought I would want the marriage record--which of course I did! Someone had found large numbers of such records at the City of Heflin "dump" (i.e. landfill) and had rescued some documents which were taken to the two elderly ladies because of their well-known interest in the history of our area. So, yes, I can verify that this atrocity did occur. Lynda Thrower Lowery

    1. Old Cleburne Co., Court Records
    2. Hello listers, Someone on the Culman Co. list said that the Cleburne Co. Court House threw out some of the old records a few years ago - even old marriage records. Anyone know about this? Surely they didn't just trash them instead of donate them to the library! Originals are priceless to a genealogist! Cathy Pickard Descendant of James M. Batson b. 1825 GA and Mary Ann Willis, b. 1822 GA, m. 1844 GA, on the 1880 Cleburne Co. AL Census next to their sons, Eli Batson and J.R. Batson with his son Joel, b. 1878. I descend through JR and Joel. They moved to Calhoun Co. - Rabbittown/White Plains area.

    1. Galen Johnson-Slate Hill Cemetery
    2. Galen Johnson's family came from DeKalb County, GA to Randolph/Cleburne County, AL. There is an excellent book on this family, "Greatness Without Fame," which probably may be found at any LDS library. I got mine when someone found one in a dumpster in Washington State. This family married into my Blake family. There is also some good Fowler information back in Dekalb and earlier, but I haven't been able to connect them with mine who were in Gwinnett.
