When were your Phillips in Clay County? I am not sure if my Phillips are related to yours. I had John Phillips in Clay County in 1860, he died in the war. His wife and children stayed in Clay County with a Horn Family. Some went on to Arkansas in the late 1880's. Others in my family were in Coweta County in 1840, they later married into the Phillips, AL family. I have not yet been able to make an earlier connection. Cindy
Here's what I know at this time. I think Elijah Phillips originated in Coweta County, GA. I also believe that he married Catherine Cambron in 1866, Cedartown, Polk County, GA. Their first three children (Eugene J. Phillips, Elijah Franklin "Frank" Phillips, and J. Oscar Phillips) were born in Georgia, and all of the rest were born in Alabama. J. Oscar Phillips was born in Georgia in 1870, so they moved over to Alabama after that year sometime. Their other children were: William Washington Mary Ardella (my Great Grandmother) Christopher Columbus Sylvester Louella Rebecca Effie Grover Cleveland I cannot totally attest to the accuracy of all of this, but in general this should be pretty accurate. I also have reason to believe that this family may have spent some time living in Cleburne and/or Calhoun counties, Alabama. Also, at least one of the children listed above settled in Clay County. Does that help? _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ Daryl Coleman Garland, Texas Homepage: http://www.dkco.com/ Family History Page: http://www.dkco.com/gen/gendex.html ICQ UIN # 63679552 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ -----Original Message----- From: Loadofgoodies@aol.com [mailto:Loadofgoodies@aol.com] Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 1:10 PM To: ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com Cc: daryl@dkco.com Subject: [17] Phillips, buried at Shiloh-Delta Cemetery, Clay Co., AL When were your Phillips in Clay County?
