    3. Hello Gloria, It's so good to find you my cousin. This would never have been possible had we not been born at such a wonderful time, as the age of the "Computer and the Internet". Perhaps we will get the opportunity to meet in person some time in the not so distant future. My research finds Issac's father to be" John Browning "out of Ga. and his father (John's) from up in North Carolina. I have the census record of the family when my grandfather was about 8 or 9 yrs of age. The records say John was from Ga. I can't remember exactly where and have not gone and pulled those files yet. I have been working on my grandmother's side of the family, McCain's, and her father's name was in fact James Madison McCain. Funny that you have that name in your records under the Browning's. She was grandpa Issac Browning's wife, Ora Lee McCain-Browning. His birth year was 1886, and he had quite a few brother's and sister's. I have much more on the Browning's, but with not knowing what you do or do not have I need to see whom you are missing or already have in your files. I will get those out and get something together to send to you ,but it will take a few days. I have several files on different sides of both my parents so you see my dilema!! Thanks for writing me back so quick. 2. Deone: Forgive my intruding on your conversation, but I too was intrigued by the name of James Madison in the Browning line. As you know James Madison McCain was my gg grandfather. My g grandfather, Berry Jackson McCain, named his third son, my grandfather, John Nolon. I have been trying to figure out where the name Nolon comes from (he passed it on to my father, and then to me). No one else among the McCains are called Nolon, but granddad was always called Nolon (he is listed as Nolon in the 1910, 20 and 30 census, not John). His second wife signed her name Mrs. Nolon McCain. It seems there are many McCain-Browning connections, and I wonder if this is another one. This is probably a stretch, but consider: It seems that Issac Browning had a son, whose name I show as Nalen D Browning, born in 1905 (same year as my grandfather). I wonder if I could have this wrong, and perhaps his name was Nolan? If so, I wonder how many other Brownings were named Nolan? Let me know what you think John Nolon McCain III ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deone Keane" <hairetc@charter.net> To: <ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 31, 2005 6:45 PM Subject: Re: [ALCLAY] Re: [17] Browning > Hello Gloria, > It's so good to find you my cousin. 3. Forgive me also for intruding, but there was an Old Doctor Dan Nolen in New Site. We have people in our family named for their doctors. I did a story in the Heritage of Tallapoosa Co on this Nolen family. 3. I just took a peek at my Browning files and have a couple of questions. --John Browning born 1802 in North Carolina, died 1885 in Alabama married Jana Hawkins, born about 1801 in Virginia and died about 1890 in Alabama. They were parents of James Madison Browning, born 1824 in South Carolina and died 1910 in Clay County, Alabama. (I do have a lot more details on James Madison than just the years.)-- My only source for the above is an interview with Kiffin Browning in 1990. I feel like the information is correct, but would like a direct source. Does anyone have any? Wanda Craft
