Dear Jeanette, Thanks for writing. I have very little information on the Barnes Family. My grandfather, Jefferson Vincent Arnold Sr., was born and lived in Clay County until about 1940 when he and my grandmother moved to Talladega where all of his children (Vernie Joiner, Minnie Haywood, Velma Goss, Wm Hubert Arnold, and JV Arnold Jr.) had already moved. The mother of Jefferson Arnold Sr was Susan Frances Barnes (b. 1850) who was married to James Vincent Arnold (b. 1853). Because their wedding on November 21, 1872 took place at the home of Lewis Barnes, I have speculated that Lewis was her father. He may have been her brother or even a cousin.
