The Clay County Courthouse burned, so there are no marriage records available from the beginning of the County (1866) until about 1873. Several of the marriage records books after 1873 are online at the Clay County Rootsweb site. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jmccain66@bellsouth.net> To: <ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 4:43 PM Subject: [ALCLAY] Starting date for Marriages in Clay CO? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: McCain, McGlon > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2R.2ADE/1290 > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for the marriage record of James Madison McCain and Mary Elizabeth McGlon, who were probably married about 1867. I base that upon the birth of their first child in 1868. I suppose it could have been earlier. My question is this: Since Clay County was formed in 1866, at what date did they start recording marriages there? I was wondering if I should skip Ashland and try Talladega Co. (McCains were living in the Chandler's Springs area of Talladaga County in the 1860 census) > > > ==== ALCLAY Mailing List ==== > Visit Clay Co.
