Does anyone out there know anything about an annual reunion at Guthries Chapel in Clay County? I believe it takes place around Labor Day every year, and attended by many Brownings. Any info will be appreciated.

Most of my ancestors come from Ashland. My father is Hubert L. Haynes born 1896 died 1975 in LaGrange, GA; his Father is John Lumpkin Haynes who was born in 1865 and died in 1954, he was married to Lusy Astilla Wesley also known as Lutie, her father was Charles Ivin Wesley and her mother was Mary E. Beasley. My great grandfather was Jacob Wesley Haynes born in1837, he was married to Rebekah Jane Hassell. He died in 1889 and she died in 1925. There were one Abraham Haynes who came from the Carolinas he is shown as Jacob's father, and he was married to Lucy Watts. who was born in Gwinnet County, GA. Some Haynes came from Frederick Maryland also. Two good sources of information on the Haynes and other families are Doris Haynes, email dhaynes@hub.of the.net and Pam Shirey , just address email to her that way. The ancestors I had in Clay County were Haynes, Wesley, Hassell that I am sure of but I am still short of having the whole family history. If any of these names interest you I may be able to help. There is an Alabama web site that has a lot of information about Clay and other Alabama counties with lists of cemeteries etc. that has been helpful to me. I cannot recall that web site right now, but I can tell you it is free and I will find it and send it on to you as soon as I do. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RSMMktInc@aol.com> To: <ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2004 3:52 PM Subject: Re: [17] Browning > I would love to have anything you have. > My research into my family history has just begun, so what you have is > probably new to me. > My GGrandparents were William J. and Sarah F. Gloria, I think you and my husband might be related. In my research I've found William J. Browning Born 29 June 1863 Died 14 December 1953 Married to Sarah Frances Bradbury Born 15 July 1866 Died 8 August 1953 But I only have three children listed and two of them don't jive with your list. Since they are your grandmother's siblings, I know yours is correct - if it's the same family. The three children I have are: Benie Browning - born 8 February 1886 Anney Browning - born 10 October 1898 Myrtle Browning - born 6 September 1907 Is this the same family? My husband's g-g-grandfather was brother to your William J. Browning. I have the line, with sources, back to John Browning, born 1802 in North Carolina. I'd be happy to share. I'd also love to compare notes with anyone researching the line. He was married to Lizzie Burgess, also from Clay County. After his death, Lizzie lived in a small house next door to her sister, my grandmother, Anna Burgess Arnold. Their father was Joel Burgess of Clay County. Thanks for your willingness to share your info. Merrell Arnold
