Greetings, I am looking for the ancestors of Jefferson Vincent Arnold who, with his wife Anna (Texanna) Burgess, raised five children in Clay County. The children were William Hubert, Vernie (Joiner), Velma (Goss), Minnie (Haywood), and Jeff Arnold, Jr. The family leased farmland just a few miles south of Ashland on the Goodwater road in the 30s. One census has him listed as Jefferson B. instead of Jefferson V., probably a census takers misunderstanding. Jeff''s father may have been James Arnold, but have not been able to document that. I do not know if James ever lived in Clay County. Any suggestions would be appreciated. melharnold@aol.com

Seeking information on Jack or Jackson Coleman married to Amelia Carlena Blackstock, date and place unknown. Amelia was born in GA Feb 25 , 1841. They had four children: Amanda birthdate and place unknown; Thomas Jackson born Birmingham, AL 1861; George born Clay Co. 1864; Francis born Clay Co. 1869. Amelia and children were in Clay Co. in 1870 but Jack has disappeared from the records. Family history is that he was born in Wales and drowned when he fell from a ship (boat?). I have found a record of a John Francis "Jack" Coleman born 1848 in KY and killed in Confederate service at Peach Tree Creek near Atlanta. GA. Since Amelia and Jack had a son named Francis this is of interest but since son Francis was born in 1869 this does not seem possible. Amelia married Christopher Jordan on 10 Dec 1879 in Clay Co. By 1900 she is living with her son Frank in Bowie Co., TX Would like to correspond with any having access to Clay Co. records or those researching Coleman, Blackstock or Jordan surnames. As the family is now putting a man to rest whom we all loved and are very grateful for his research and putting it on the web for all of us to find. I had to send one last thing about him to all of you. Sam helped me greatly in my own research and we were related through his great- great grandfather and my great grand father and mother JNO Caldwell and Analiza Killgore. In the first emails that Sam sent to me, he sent me this poem and I think it expresses what most of us felt about him. Beatitudes of a Family Genealogist Blessed are the great grandmothers, who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters, for they tell the story of their time. Blessed are all the grandfathers who filed every legal document, for this provides proof. Blessed are grandmothers who preserved family Bibles and diaries, for this is our heritage. Blessed are the fathers who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry, for - some- they are the only link to the past. Blessed are mothers who relate family traditions, and legends to the family, for one of her children will surely remember. Blessed are the relatives who fill in family sheets with extra data, for them we owe the family history. Blessed is any family whose members strive for the preservation of records, for theirs is a labor of love. Blessed are the children who will never say, "Grandma, you told that old story twice today." God Bless you Sam, and thank you for all that you shared and that won't be forgotten.
What a bummer. I just got back from a trip and saw where Sam had died. I am so very sorry to hear that. Sam was always helpful and a very hard worker. there was a Clyde Mundy in Anniston in the fifties. I think he was a little older than me, and I was 18 in 1958. Cannot remember if he went to Oxford high school or Anniston high. I do think he was at Jacksonville college in 1958-9.

Surnames: Coker, Munroe Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2R.2ADE/975 Message Board Post: I'm asking for help regarding the place names "Hillabee" and "Hillabee Mill" and also "Millerville Cemetery." I am descended from Malcolm Munroe through his son Archibald. Archibald's daughter Tamer Jane married Marion Jackson Coker. They are my g-grandparents through their son Lorenzo Dow Coker and Lorenzo's son Horlick Russell Coker. Malcolm and Archibald lived around Millerville, and the Cokers came into the area when Marion Jackson Coker's father, Johnathan Clark Coker, moved his family there between 1850 and 1860. Archibald and his wife Terri Emily Cochran are reportedly buried at Hillabee Mill, and Johnathan Clark Coker is said to be buried at Millerville Cemetery. I would like to visit these places; but I can find no present-day references to "Hillabee" other than Hillabee Creek, and on a visit to Millerville this year, no one whom I questioned knew of a place currently called "Millerville Cemetery." I would appreciate any information on these locations; and if anyone is researching the Coker line I mentioned, I would be happy to supply information.
