Where are the Clay County Gen. Society archives kept? I am in hunt of my paternal great and gg grandfathers, and would like to make a day trip from Chambers County all the way up to your neck of the woods to browse for information. The Grady Archives here in Valley have a little on Clay County, but not enough. Any information appreciated by this cousin of many of you- Thanks and Happy New Year! Pat Blankenship
When were your Phillips in Clay County? I am not sure if my Phillips are related to yours. I had John Phillips in Clay County in 1860, he died in the war. His wife and children stayed in Clay County with a Horn Family. Some went on to Arkansas in the late 1880's. Others in my family were in Coweta County in 1840, they later married into the Phillips, AL family. I have not yet been able to make an earlier connection. Cindy
Here's what I know at this time. I think Elijah Phillips originated in Coweta County, GA. I also believe that he married Catherine Cambron in 1866, Cedartown, Polk County, GA. Their first three children (Eugene J. Phillips, Elijah Franklin "Frank" Phillips, and J. Oscar Phillips) were born in Georgia, and all of the rest were born in Alabama. J. Oscar Phillips was born in Georgia in 1870, so they moved over to Alabama after that year sometime. Their other children were: William Washington Mary Ardella (my Great Grandmother) Christopher Columbus Sylvester Louella Rebecca Effie Grover Cleveland I cannot totally attest to the accuracy of all of this, but in general this should be pretty accurate. I also have reason to believe that this family may have spent some time living in Cleburne and/or Calhoun counties, Alabama. Also, at least one of the children listed above settled in Clay County. Does that help? _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ Daryl Coleman Garland, Texas Homepage: http://www.dkco.com/ Family History Page: http://www.dkco.com/gen/gendex.html ICQ UIN # 63679552 _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ -----Original Message----- From: Loadofgoodies@aol.com [mailto:Loadofgoodies@aol.com] Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 1:10 PM To: ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com Cc: daryl@dkco.com Subject: [17] Phillips, buried at Shiloh-Delta Cemetery, Clay Co., AL When were your Phillips in Clay County? I am seeking information about my GG Grandparents, Elijah Phillips (b. 1841 in Georgia, d. 1901 in Alabama) and his wife, Catherine Phillips (nee Cambron)(1847-1925), who were supposedly buried in the Shiloh Cemetery, Delta, Clay County. I am wishing to learn more about them, and also make contact with any of their descendants. My information says they had 11 children, with at least some of them being born in Georgia. I am under the impression that Elijah was originally from Coweta Co., GA, and his wife Catherine Cambron may have been from Polk County, GA. Apart from this, I am pretty much in the dark and would love to communicate with others who have an interest in this Phillips family. Books suggest it has something to do with Holly, but a more likely explanation is that between macclesfield and Bosley the is a spur of the Pennines and the promontory is called Hollins. Hollinshead appears to have originated from a man named Hugh Hollyns of Head. So the two families are probably linked. Stephen

We have some wonderful news for Clay Co. researchers and a request for help from someone out there. Linda Ayers and Kaye Watts,, two great Clay Co. Al. researchers are in the process of transcribing the 1880 Clay Co. Al census to go online!! These ladies are also going to add specific information from their own databases about individuals on that census record and this should benefit all of us that are researching in Clay Co. How generous these ladies are to transcribe this information for us and share along with the years of collected materials that they have at their hands. What is needed is for some kind soul to volunteer to proof the census for them. This is going to be a major undertaking and will probably take awhile but if anyone out there is willing to proof this census for Kaye, please send her an email at wattsit2ya@htcomp.net and let her know! This is going to benefit any and all Clay Co. Al researchers and I'm overwhelmed at these ladies generosity. Can anyone help them out? Debra Crosby
Hi Johnny and welcome to the AlClay mailing list. I am not researching any Haynes but I just want to welcome you to the list and wish you luck in finding other Haynes researchers to help you. For those who want to check the 1880, the LDS site has it on-line at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/searc h_census.asp. Of course, it doesn't have all the additional information these ladies will be adding, but might be a start for someone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debra Crosby" <poohbos@poohbos.com> To: <ALCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 01, 2003 7:15 PM Subject: [17] Great News and Help Wanted > We have some wonderful news for Clay Co. researchers and a request for help from someone out there. > Linda Ayers and Kaye Watts,, two great Clay Co.
