I do know that Thomas Strickland substituted for Hugh Hathorne during the Civil War and that Hugh later moved to OK. It has been speculated that Thomas Strickland also moved there but there is no proof. He is not listed after the 1860 census and his wife stated that his time and place of death were unknown when she applied for his pension. Thomas and Lucinda Peeler Strickland's daughter Mary Ann Strickland married John T (Thomas?) Clifton and thier daughter Georgia Ann Victoria Clifton married James Samuel Mitchell. As far as I know everyone stayed in Randolph Co, AL with the exception of Thomas Stickland.

If you can tell me who her parents were I can possibly help you more. Also my great grandmother was a McGlon, could have been McGaultney, as you probably know lots of names and the spellings thereof changed and some dropped the Mc and Mac's. Please let me know if you have anything additional about your Browning that may help me. Thanks Deone

    2. I am looking for a Cemetery in coffee County. It is probably 8 to 10 miles west of Enterprise. I believe it is located on Highway 87. The name of it is Mt. Gilead. The community used to be called Bradshaw. There is a church by the Cemetery yard. I am not sure what the nomination it is. If anyone can help I would appreciate if. Do you know if it is online or if there is an abstract, and how I can obtain one? Jean

    1. [17] New Things at Clay Co. AlGenWeb
    2. Debra Crosby
    3. We have a few new features at the Clay County AlGenWeb page! http://www.rootsweb.com/~alclay/ 1. We now have a separate page for you to post your photographs of Clay County persons or places!!! If you have old "heirloom" photographs of family members or photos of historical places in Clay Co. now we have a page set aside for sharing those photos! http://www.rootsweb.com/~alclay/photos.html 2. We also have a new "Announcements" page which is set aside for any Clay County related announcements such as new books being published, reunions and other events. You can post these events here so that others can find the information easily! http://www.rootsweb.com/~alclay/announce.html 3. AlArchives now has a new "forms" page which makes transcribing your records and posting them to the archives to share with others Soooo easy. No worrying about formats. Just type your records into these forms for ANY county, click on submit and the record goes to the AlArchives manager for whichever counties you select completely formatted and ready for posting! One new feature of these forms that we are trying out is having any record posted from these forms for Clay County will automatically sent to the ALCLAY-L mailing list. This is new so any input would be welcome. Like the feature, don't like the feature,, let me know!!! The forms are great! If you have a record to transcribe be sure to check these forms! http://www.poppet.org/alfiles/ 4. Linda S. Ayers who has so graciously shared so much material with us is currently updating the Clay County cemeteries on the Clay County AlArchives pages!! Be sure to keep a check on these as she has submitted a few "new" cemeteries as well as bible records and military records!! She is also going to try and have the newspaper do an article on the site so if you have anything to share,, now is the time to do it!! http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/al/clay.htm Debra Crosby Clay County AlGenWeb Coordinator Clay County AlArchives Manager
