Davis ------------ I have been studying the Alabama River side some, Gosport to the river cutoff south, without much success or results, just a little general knowledge. Scotch Lumber Company has some logging camp info from the 1880's to 1950 or so. The book "Logging Railroads of Alabama" by Thomas Lawson, Jr., Cabbaage Stack Publishing, P.O. Box 19912 Birmingham AL 35219 has a lot about camp locations but few maps. Clarke County Historical Society publications have several articles on the old salt works. I believe there were more than one. CCHS has a project to make an index and put that and all the articles for the last 25 years on a web site but that is probably at least a year away if it happens. Those quarterly publications are available at several libraries, without an index. ------------ http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ after you find out the sections and townships, then go to Microsoft terraserver for a topographic map or satellite map of the area. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ It takes some study and work, but it can be done. ------------ > as well as the major industrial works: mines, > salt works, lumber camps, etc.? ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
