    3. Mandy, I suspect that your Obediah is son of John Smith who died in Clarke in 1817. This John smith had a daughter, Sally who married William Robinson and after his death to Thomas cox. Her parents were John and Hannah Smith. Check the following url which has John Smith's probate records. An Obediah is listed a minor heir. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/al+index+4838490564+F hope that works if not go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm and do a search in Alabama for John smith. Somewhere I have a copy of John's will. will try to find it. My lines in Clarke Co are Cox and Brunson. I'm interested in your other lines that came through Newberry Co, SC, too. -- Lee of the Stockman Family Newsletter

    1. Why Did They Leave - Migration
    2. Cassandra Davis
    3. I am finding that there was a migration from Clarke/Wilcon/Marengo, Alabama to Mississippi during the early part of the 20th century. In some cases the located to Greenwood/Sidon, MS, in what is now LeFlore County.\ Some of told me it could have a flood (now know there was no flood in Clarke), boll weavel, drought, disease, following evangelism ministers, work on the delta/river/turpintine/no-weavel cotton, lumber, ... What have other experienced? Looking at a map, it seems like a big move from a place with varied resources to a far away place that was very different. Travel from 1900-1920 was not easy. Why leave? Thanks. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk! 1. Rigdon NORRIS- Clarke County 1860
    2. cjones5
    3. I am looking for information on Rigdon Norris. Ancestry.com shows him listed in the 1860 Clarke County Al Census. I have not been able to find that census online so I don't know what it says. Is there anyone around Clarke County who would be willing to do a lookup to see if there is a will on file for him or possibly an obituary. I have him b abt 1795 in Oglethorpe or Wilkes County Ga. His parents did not move, but they formed Oglethorpe out of part of Wilkes at about the time of his birth. He has a nephew, J R Norris,Sr who is buried in the "Norris Cemetery" on Co Rd 29 near Gainstown, but there is no sign of Rigdon. I might add that in 2 years of researching the Norris Family, I have found only the one Rigdon Norris. So if someone runs across one by that name, I would love to hear from you. Thank you very much for any help that comes my way..C B Jones, Melbourne Fl cjones5@cfl.rr.com

    2. Ronald Le Var
    3. I am searching for information on James A. B. Flinn (Flynn) who was a member of Marion Masonic Lodge in 1840...maybe 1833. He was young--18, so I'm not sure of the 1833 date. I know he was born in 1815 in possibly Georgia. He moved to Alabama while young with his parents. I don't have his parent's names, nor the exact time and place of birth. I think I am STUCK in my research until I can find out more about him. I am hoping the Lodge recorded some of that information. Anyone have any suggestions? Patti

    3. Dear Bill, The last two issues of the Historicsl Society's Quarterlies had letters from Henry G & Jane Davis. Several times they mention Captain Flinn and Mrs. Flinn, who are my ancestors. Do you know anything about this relationship. Were they just friends? I seem to recall court documents where they were both listed. 2. Cassandra Davis
    3. Eliza Reasor Holt's photo is in the "Images of America, Clarke County", page 92, along with thw statement "Eliza Reasor Holt, the wife of Nathan Holt, must have spent her life in service to others. In her young life in Bashi, she was a slave. In later life, she was a mid-wife. Mrs. Holt was born in 1836 and died 1940. Remembering the long life (104 years) of Mrs. Holt allows us a brief glimpse into the past and deepens our appreciation for progress made sine her time." There sounds as if there is a story for Mrs. Holt to recieve such distintion. Perhaps the Thomasville newspaper wrote of jer 100 year birthday or at the time of her death. I would like to know more. Is anyone familiar with Eliza Reasor Holt, Nathan Holt, the Holt or Reasor families? Thanks in advance. C.davis1@juno.com p.s.
