Cassanda http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ after you find out the sections and townships, then go to Microsoft terraserver for a topographic map or satellite map of the area. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ It takes some study and work, but it can be done. Thanks to Mr. Mitchell for this information. Others have expressed interest on this topic, so I am forwarding it the listserves to share. >>> I have ma e maps of Samuel Forwood's land. He had a plantation most of which was purchased from the Murphy plantation at Gosport, Alabama. I also made maps of Wm Coate's land at Clarksville, Alabama. I don't know of any others, but the info probably could be derived from the Bureau of Land Managment sites on the internet with the name of the plantation owner. Does anyone know if records from the 1800s are available from: ROCKVILLE ACADEMY FRANKLIN ACADEMY IN SUGGSVILLE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA I would love to have a student's application for enrollment. Patti
Someone a few months ago was interested in the Salt Works of Clarke County, AL and information compiled by the Clarke County Historical Society. I recently borrowed a book through interlibrary loan titled "Historical Sketches of Clarke County, AL" by the Clarke County Historical Society published by the Strode Publishers of Huntsville, AL copyright 1977, Call numbers 976.1245 , C551h. There is an article in the book about the salt works on pp.316-339 written by T. L. Head, Jr. in 1915 and published by his niece in the above book. The book mentioned that a copy of his paper was filed at the geological department of the University of Alabama. This book was on loan from the Julia Tutwiler Library in Livingston, AL and may be of interest to anyone interested in Clarke County, AL history. Jackie Feldman Redmond, WA
