>5. John R. and wife Martha's son: CLAUD BILLINGSLEY (b1886, d1937 in >Birmingham), Chilton Co. 1900 census, Baldwin Co. 1910 census, Birmingham >City Directory 1922. >From "Yours,Mine and Theirs" "A listing of Civil War soldiers connected with Chilton County, Alabama." Page 12 Billingsley, John R. was born 12 Sept 1847 and died 12 Sept 1922 and was buried at Thorsby Memorial cemetery. Obit: None. Married Mrs. Martha D. on 1873 at [B. Oct 1856/D. 15 Sep 1935}. Union-Banner 19 Sep 1935. Survived by eight sons and two daughters. Ref: 1910C, CoC page 239 ----------- The above is directly as it is in the book. The references appear to be the 1910 Census and the book "Cemeteries of Chilton" but they are not in the bibliography so I'm not sure. "Cemeteries of Chilton", does list him on the quoted page. The book was a big project and covers a lot of sources but the final project was done from a computor database that put the details together. It is not always clear what is meant and some sources may be missing. For example the line (Married Mrs. Martha D. on 1873 at [B. Oct 1856/D. 15 Sep 1935}. Union-Banner 19 Sep 1935.) appears to refer to an Obit for HER in the Union Banner. Also from this I would expect to find a death cert. for her and more records of his service. In this time period it would not be uncommon to find a homestead claim for land. If you would like more details on where to look for more email me directly and include the entire message as it is difficult to keep up with all the people I deal with from message to mesage. If you happen to be in the B'ham,Al area or can get there easily most are availible there (Montogomery as well). If not I can help there as well but it will require I type a lot more.
