Can someone tell me who were Martha Jones' parents? Also can anyone tell me the purpose of the "Alliance"? The Banner Vol.1, Clanton, Ala., Thursday, February 2,1893, No. 12 Our County Officers, Sheriff Moore -- The preservation of law and order being the first principle of all civilized communities it devolves upon the part of the people that they procure good and efficient officers for that purpose, and one of the most essential points in any county government is the absolute necessity of having a mean of undoubted integrity and courage to fill the onerous post of sheriff. In this respect Chilton county can congratulate itself upon the man who was elected to fill this position, and who has a short time since his election proven himself a vigilant, faithful and thoroughly efficient officer. P.M. MOORE, or as he is more popularly known, Pink MOORE. Sheriff of Chilton county, was born in the county of Bibb, May 6, 1846; he is of real old Chilton stock, his father, B. H. MOORE having been born, in 1817, in Chilton county, which at that time formed part of the county of Bibb. While now in the very prime of manhood, Sheriff MOORE has from his ch! ildhood up been inured to a life of toil, which has given him the sinewy athletic frame with which to cope with evil-doers. Whether following the plow or chasing lawbreakers our gallant sheriff goes about his work with a purpose so intent upon accomplishing his object that failure is to him an unknown quality. Pink early discovered that for a man to remain single was a mistake, and when he was twenty-one years of age he was more firmly convinced of this fact by the charms of Miss Martha A. JONES, of Bibb County, to whom he was married January 4, 1867. Living a happy domestic life with his fair, accomplished wife, the Sheriff passed his days in peace and contentment, until the voice of the people called him to fill the sheriff's office, when he moved to Clanton, where the manifold virtues and attractions of his accomplished family at once made for them a host of friends. He has eight children, three whom are married. For fifteen years Sheriff MOORE has been a member of t! he Baptist church, and for several years a strong supported and member of the Alliance. He has already made himself a terror to violators of the law, and promises by his energetic course of action to make for himself a state reputation as a perfectly fearless and trustworthy official. It is such a man as this the people delighted to honor.
