Originally named Baker County, in honor of Alfred Baker, a prominent citizen, it was renamed Chilton in honor of Chief Justice William Parish Chilton on 17 December 1874. The Chestnut Creek area was Part of Autauga Co. then Baker/Chilton. It is very roughly the area of Clanton and some distance due south. Several of us have been transcribing the 1880 census and the Chestnut Creek area is almost twice the size of any other district. Sadly it is almost entirely illegiable. The Autauga County website has many of the census' online.
