Author: dts146 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.chilton/2642.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A couple notes... if this is still a question... The 1930FC notes their ages at marriage, which puts the marriage at 1906. Since they are at Verbena, I'd also check in Autauga county for records. Looking at the AL archives site, I see that there are microfilms for: AUTAUGA CO: Marriage License Index 1895-1908 Marriage Records and Indices 1850-1912 Marriage Records and Indices White 1898-1908 Records of Birth |Also Records of Death 1908.03-1916.02 CHILTON CO: Marriage Records and Indices 1902-1908 Marriage Records and Indices Marriage Licenses 1890-1930 Terrell, Carter - Wiggins, W. N. Poll Tax Records 1901 ca.1940's A - Z NOTE: The Chilton County Poll Tax Card files contain three seperate A - Z f iles. They do not duplicate each other, although some dupications can be found. All three files span the same time frame. This record reveals a registrant's birthdate, and sometimes when and from where the registrant has moved into the county and/or state. Records of Birth|Register of Births & Deaths 1908.07-1919.12 Here is their address: http://www.archives.alabama.gov/localrecords/search.cfm I'd go and exhaust those possibilities too... most counties don't have much in the way of birth records prior to 1908, tho' SOME have a few older records. These *CAN* be viewed by us, whereas the state ones starting in 1908 *CANNOT* be seen by us. Derric Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Explanation of vital records in Alabama >From "Tracing Your Alabama Past" by Robert Davis - "Birth and death vital records began as civil county records in 1881 when the state . . . created for each county a health department. . . . These records, although often incomplete, frequently survive among the holdings of individual county courts of probate as late as 1908. In 1909 a state vital records office became the archives of Alabama birth and death records." Although created, like death records there was a very slow start in complying with the law so one often cannot find either record until 1915 - 1920 and then, only if one is filled out and turned in to the state. Also, for death records, check FamilySearch.org for state death records which give microfilm volume and film info, then order film from your nearest LDS Family History Center and make copies of the certificates. For research purposes they don't need to be certified. Much less cost. I am having a hard time finding info on this line. The Chilton county courthouse says they do not have any birth records before 1908, the lady at vital log in Mont and the archives says they dont have nay either. I feel as if I am not looking in the right direction. Can someone make any sugestions to me. Listed below is some info. [another post] Alabama will only issue birth cert if you are a direct child and they don't have records on the state before 1908.
