    3. The Autauga Genealogical Society meets this Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m., 131 N. Washington, in downtown Prattville. The program, “Digital Organization for Genealogists, Part II”, will be presented by Kay Kripchek. Kay gave the first part of the program last month and there was a great deal of interest shown. Many questions were asked and answered and those who attended are eagerly awaiting the next informational presentation. Attendance at the first program is not necessary to learn from this session. Part two of this program will continue to focus on organizing our genealogy records on computers with emphasis on planning, implementation, and equipment such as software and hardware. If you want to bring your own computer and follow along you will need enough battery power as there are not adequate plug-ins for laptops. Those who use tablets may want to bring them. Visitors are always welcome.

Author: matchka Surnames: Holiman Halliman Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.chilton/2675/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information on Ose Holliman located in the 1900 census in Chilton county with his wife Rosa. They had married Sept 1889 in Chilton county also. I have found Rosa's line but cannot find anything on Ose. Really not sure of the spelling of the first name or variation of the last. He was born in Aug 1880 (yes missed the census) in Alabama. There are Hollimans in the Autauga county, descendants of Gillis Holiman. Based on DNA links I strongly suspect that Gillis is closely related but I cannot find the missing link. Appreciate any help or ideas here. 2. Caroline via
    3. Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. Location: 131 North Washington Street, Prattville, across from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Prattville. Catherine Evans Davies, Ph.D., Professor of Linguistics from the University of Alabama will speak on "The Southern Accents of Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams". This presentation examines accent as a dimension of the Southern dialects of Jimmie Rogers and Hank Williams, who represent two generations of speakers of “Piney Woods Southern”. Analyzing both recorded song and speech, Dr. Davies shows similarities and differences between the vernacular speech of these two founders of Country Music. The personal histories of the two men are considered in terms of the effect on their accents, and the presentation includes sound clips that the audience participates in analyzing. Dr. Davies holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Davies came to Alabama in 1989. She teaches courses on Introduction to Linguistics and on Variation in American English. After coming to Alabama she became fascinated with Southern speech and so her research has explored this topic. Information: Vice-President D T Crowley at 365-4713
