Clanton is in Chilton Co. It was originally Baker Co., but changed to Chilton Co in the 1870s. Sylvia Bernard
Hi Irma: I'm doing that right now! I've got three family lines to check, and I think a couple of them were across the line into Shelby county---I think! Thanks, Leslie Hill
Thanks much--let me get out my map and time frame for all these folks! Leslie Hill
Could someone let me know what county the town of Clanton would have been in, in 1856? Thanks, Leslie Hill

In 1875, Martin Robinson married Miss Lucy Scott as shown in Marriage Book One, Certificate 339 located in the Probate Judge's Office in the Chilton County, Alabama Courthouse. The bondsmen were W. L. Campbell and W. D. Serter. I know that W. L. Campbell was sheriff for Chilton County during this time period. Couple of questions...... Was it common to have the sheriff as a bondsman during this time period or is it likely there was a personal relationship between these individuals? Does anyone know if W. D. Serter was serving as a public official or in a law practice at this time? W. D. Serter is listed in the 1880 Chilton County Census on p. 30, dwelling 107, family 107. I could not make out the occupation that he had listed beside his name. Does anyone familiar with this individual know what his occupation was? Again, for anyone familiar with Serter, do I have the spelling correct? My two source are very difficult to read. Thanks, Gregory O. Robinson

Liz, According to the instructions in the Chilton County Cemetery Book: >From Clanton take State 145 North for about 8.75 miles, right for about 0.6 miles to cemetery on the right on hill, barely visible from the road. Hi. While I don't have any info on your family I did find some info that might be helpful. The Beat 3, Dixie area that this family was in in 1880 was in the SE corner of Baker/ Chilton and dead on the border of Bibb and Perry and a few times a few miles inside Dallas County between 1850 and 1870. You might find records in any of those counties. Autauga is close enough to look into also. I hope this of use to you. Looking for information on Middleton FULLER who is listed on the 1870 Baker county census. Thanks. Barry Fox Greenville, SC

Hi I need help in finding information on the Gilchrist family in Chilton county Alabama. Can anyone help? Thanl you Fred
I am looking for information on my g grandmother's, Sarah Lafayette FULLER (5/31/1862-2/1/1910), family. Family "legend" says her father was William FULLER and her mother was Elizabeth (maiden name unknown), all born in AL. According to her marriage license to John CHAMBERS (10/25/1879), the ceremony took place in the home of F. FULLER in Chilton county. I can find no FULLERs listed on the 1870 or 1880 Chilton county census. In the 1880 census, Sarah FULLER and John CHAMBERS are listed as living in the house of John's brother, George W., in Perry County. She is listed as Faytie. Any information on this FULLER family would be greatly appreciated. Barry Fox Greenville, SC
I am intrigued by the obituary of Sarah Rasberry. Melissa Rasberry was her, Granddaughter? (I am away from home and without files). Melissa married Dolbee Riggins, son of William and Nancy Atkinson Riggins. Melissa and Dolbee had among others Daulby Riggins who married Dora Malone. Are you still with me ? Their second son was Thomas Watson Riggins, my grandfather. I have always wanted to find a Riggins/Watson link. Anyone ? Maryellen
Hi All, This obituary was found between the pages of a very old Bible that belonged to my mother's family., Alma Daisy (Scott) Watson, daughter of Daniel W. Scott and Mary Victoria (Langston) Scott, who lived in the Mars Hill community. There is no date, and no name of the newspaper, but I'm thinking it probably came from the Banner at Clanton, Al. I would like to share it with her descendents.....because one of my kin knew her well enough to save her obituary: Randolph. (I assume this is the community of Randolph) The Angel of death visited the home of Mr. Ben Rasberry this past week and took his beloved wife, Mrs. Sallie. She leaves many friends to grieve after her. Weep not, dear father and children, for we feel that your loss is heaven's great gain. We have known Sister Rasberry for many years and she has been a member of the Baptist church at Macedonia for a long time in good standing, and she was surely a good Christian woman. Her remains were laid to rest in the Macedonia cemetery, there to remain till the resurrection day, when all shall rise, some to life eternal and some to everlasting woe and misery. We hope her loved ones will strive to meet her in that land where sickness and sorrow never comes, where all is love forever and ever. M. C. Crumpton Neither Rasberry nor Crumpton are mine. Hopefully, somebody can use this. Peg
[Unable to display image]==== August 11, 2000 ======= =======From the Desk of JOELTROSS I am looking for any information on Abraham MILLER and Frances LaCOSTE. Abraham meet Frances in the Moblie, Alabama area during the civil war. They moved to Perry county, Alabama and rasied a family and carried on the LaCOSTE family trade of pottery. In fact there is still MILLER's in the Tuscaloosa area that is still making pottery today. I am also looking for any information on the HOLLEY's and the DEESE's families that lived in that same area of Alabama. If you have any information on these families and their descendants please e-mail me or if you have it in a GEDcom file please send it also. Thanks Joel T. Ross 6th generation descendant
Hi everyone. I've been trying for several years to verify a connection between the Dennis and Swords lines in Lincoln Co.,Ga and later in Autauga/Chilton Co., Al. for the Dennis' and Walton/ Newton Co., GA for the Swords. I was looking based on the slim lead that a researcher in the 1940's filed for SAR membership based on the Rev. War service of James Swords of Lincoln and Walton Cos.,GA. It stated that his dau. Elizabeth Swords was the wife of Jacob Dennis of Autauga Co., AL. I've never been able to come close to proving it but tax digests show the families living very close in Lincoln Co., Ga for many years. In filing some records for the Dennis family I noticed that a son of Joel Dennis, Joel Mack Dennis death records showed his mother's maiden name as Millie Swords. However the marraige records show her as Amelia Morgan (m. 30 May 1833). Does anyone know if she was previously married? She was 5 years older than him and at 22 could easily have been a widow. Several of the larger cities directories have some listings for each county in some years. I'm not sure they may have paid for them. I know the 1910 Young and Cos. listed 4 blacksmiths in Chilton. I don't remember seeing them for other years but I am going to the Birmingham library in the morning and can check. I don't know of any directories extant for Chilton that are anywhere near that old. What name are you looking for? If you don't catch me before I leave in the morning I'm afraid it will be a while as I'm very busy at work this summer. D.
