    3. Montgomery - the Alabama Genealogical Society (AGS) will hold its annual Fall Seminar on Saturday, October 16, 2004, at the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery, Alabama. This seminar, titled "Writing Your Own History, The Secret System That Makes It Easy," will be presented by nationally known speaker, LaRae Free Kerr, M. Ed. Kerr began speaking publicly when only a child and started her research in family history when she was fifteen years old. She has continued to research, organize reunions, write and publish articles as well as an award-winning book and has taught college level composition for twenty-one years in Idaho, California and Utah. Kerr will bring considerable knowledge, application and expertise to the lectures, which will prove to be useful for all amateur and professional genealogists and researchers. The seminar will include the following lecture topics: *The Memory Jar: A simple system for remembering, organizing, documenting and writing memoirs. *Write Word Pictures: Make family histories lively through language. * SOS: Making sense from opinions and sources. *Twentieth Century Research: If 70% of pedigrees are wrong in the 20th Century, is yours? How do you know? The seminar will begin with refreshments at 9:00 a.m. outside the Milo Howard Auditorium in the ADAH Building and conclude at 3:30 p.m. Boxed lunches from Chappy's Deli will also be served for all pre-registered attendees. At least five vendors will be on hand making their goods and services available to seminar participants, including Southern Historical Press of South Carolina, Tuscaloosa Bindery, Heritage Publishing Consultants, Southern Genealogical Services, and Friends of the Alabama Archives.     3. The Autauga Genealogical Society will hold a seminar on ALABAMA RESEARCH on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 1- 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in downtown Prattville, AL. Larry E. Caver, Jr. of Prattville will be the speaker. Larry is the author of nine genealogical books and is a seasoned presented across the Southeast. The first session will consist of information on early Alabama and Mississippi Territory records. The second session will address historical and genealogical societies in Alabama, public and private libraries in Alabama with genealogical holdings, and other repositories.     3. The Autauga Genealogy Society will not hold the regular meeting in June. The Family History and Regional History Center at Wallace State Junior College in Hanceville will be open on Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., during the summer beginning June 5. Some of the society members are going to Hanceville on June 5. There is no planned carpool.

The 2004 national PACE Society of America Reunion will be held in Alabama at the Legends, Prattville, Alabama, June 24 - 26. Events begin Thursday evening June 24 with a dinner/program. On June 25 there will be choices of a tour of Montgomery, research at the Alabama Archives, or golf at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. On June 26 a business/breakfast meeting will be followed by Pace genealogy research presentations. The concluding event will be a banquet/program on Saturday evening. The Pace Society of America, organized in 1963 in Columbus, MS, has held annual reunions since inception at numerous cities including Salt Lake City and Williamsburg. The membership policy states that "any individual with the surname PACE is eligible to become a member". Also, any descendant of an ancestor with the surname PACE is eligible. Along with members, guests are welcome for all events when registration and dinner payments are made prior to June 18, 2004.     3. The Autauga Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Prattville Library. The program, presented by Bob McLendon, will be "Anatomy of an Alabama Regiment". The information is taken from about 20 years of in-depth research on the 53rd Regiment, Alabama Calvary, also referred to as the 53rd Alabama Partisan Rangers. As well as what the regiment did during the war, Mr. McLendon has compiled biographical and genealogical information on the men who served in the 53rd. This Civil War regiment was comprised of men recruited not only from Autauga but also from nearby counties, including Coosa, present day Elmore, Montgomery, Butler, Lowndes, Pike, Dale and Coffee Counties. Election of officers will also be held. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting.
