    2. Kay Rockett
    3. Dwight, I agree with you about the POSEY paper trail. I don't go directly to the POSEYs, but they are collateral lines of my MORRIS and COOPER families, and I believe they tie in to almost all the families in old Autauga. There's a wealth of info in all the POSEY papers. My Peter COOPER's first wife has been nameless for years. I still don't have her last name, but I was looking over some photocopies of a POSEY bible, and it mentioned Martha Margaret POSEY as being the daughter of Peter and Margaret COOPER. I believe this info is nowhere else to be found, so I will read any and all POSEY info with great interest!! *********************************** Please visit Rockett's Genealogy Web recommended by the History Channel http://www.kayrockett.com and also our custom handknit sweater site http://www.ncknitshop.com ************************************

    1. Re: Martha/SingletonPOSEY
    2. Kay Rockett
    3. Your info is some that has been passed around erroneously....that is, the part about Singleton's marriages. There was an older Singleton POSEY who married Martha Margaret COOPER....if you'll notice the birth year of 1831 and the marriage year of 1837, you'll see what I mean about an error. I can't remember exactly, but I believe the younger Singleton was his nephew, and he's the one who married Martha MORRIS. Both of these Singleton's can be found in censuses....probably for 1850, but I don't have the info in front of me at the moment. Have you joined the Autauga Co email list (for Chilton Co also)? The address for subbing is ALCHILTO-L-request@rootsweb.com. I think it's going to be a VERY successful list. The listowner has some great plans for sharing info with the list. Hope to see you there!! :) *********************************** Please visit Rockett's Genealogy Web recommended by the History Channel http://www.kayrockett.com and also our custom handknit sweater site http://www.ncknitshop.com ************************************

    1. Autauga families
    2. Kay Rockett
    3. Hi, Dwight (or do you go by David?). I'm from several families in Autauga, which means I probably have connections to everyone!! I go to Peter COOPER and Samantha MONCRIEF, dau of Isaac MONCRIEF and Nancy KICKER. Peter and Samantha's son Alphonzo COOPER married Mary Elizabeth BARBER, dau of Green B. BARBER and Sally GOODGAME. Green's parents were Moses BARBER and Mary WESLEY. Alphonzo COOPER's dau Emma Louisa (named for two of her Moncrief aunts) married Newbern Webster ROCKETT. N. W.'s mother was a MORRIS, and her aunt Martha married Singleton POSEY (the "younger") and Peter COOPER's dau Martha Margaret married Singleton POSEY (the "elder"). Except for the MORRISES and the ROCKETTs, who heavily populated nearby Jefferson Co, AL, all of the above surnames were in Autauga county during the 1800's. One of Samantha Moncrief's sisters married a DENNIS and another married a GRAY. I'm looking for the parents of Peter COOPER, Isaac MONCRIEF, Moses BARBER, and Mary WESLEY. I would also be thrilled to find cousins in these lines and would almost give my right arm for some family photos. I'll repost this every week or so until the list takes off. Do I have any cousins so far? *********************************** Please visit Rockett's Genealogy Web recommended by the History Channel http://www.kayrockett.com and also our custom handknit sweater site http://www.ncknitshop.com ************************************

    3. Hello all, There are now 9 subscribed to the list, too few to be effective but have patience and tell your friends. My modem has slowed down to a crawl, can't get better that 4800 bps.My old 486 w/ a US Robotics 56k is preforming well but if I use it my mail gets filed on that system which is worse than dealing with the slow speed. Anyway I'm going to be posting complete transcripts of some things from the Autauga courthouse starting with the estate of Malinda Posey, which I find has info on a lot of families, not just Posey's. I've just started it and I've yet to see a lot of the things that are purported to be proven by it which is why I picked it to post. Even if you aren't interested in the Posey line it should be of interest to see the paper trail an estate can generate from start to finish. I've found some of the best clue's are in obscure parts of the estate papers which are often missed in the published books of abstracts. I'm also going to start on the 1880 census for Chilton County. I've been waiting to hear from UsGenWeb to start on that but I'll do it on my own if they don't reply soon. -- Dwight David Dennis,1014 Ski Lodge 3,Birmingham,Al.35209 dddennis@concentric.net,http://www.concentric.net/~Dddennis/surnames.htm Chilton County UsGenWeb page,http://www.concentric.net/~Dddennis/chilton.htm

    2. Carol Moody
    3. My great grandfather, Alfred Joshua ALDRIDGE, b. abt 1862/1864 in AL, married my great grandmother Bettie MATTHEWS in Chilton Co. in 1885. Bettie is supposed to be the daughter of Polly MIMS who married 1st John HEADLEY, 2nd John W. DuBOSE and 3rd Jefferson (Dick?) EDWARDS. In the 1880 Chilton Co. census Bettie is listed as the stepdaughter of the head of the house (Jeff EDWARDS) and is presumably the dau. of the lady of the house, who is the Polly listed above. My questions are 1. Who is the father of Bettie MATTHEWS? 2. Who are the parents of Alfred Joshua ALDRIDGE? I can't find A.J. ALDRIDGE in the 1870 census for Chilton, as a child. Family history says A.J. killed his cousin "Dutch" between 1903 and 1905 and I would like any information regarding that as well. It is said that "Dutch" and A.J. had a long standing "feud" but I have no details. A.J. died in Autauga Co. in 1932 and was there from at least 1900 until his death. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carol Moody

    1. Re: ALDRIDGE/MATTHEWS
    2. Carol: No answers, just more questions. Did A.J. remarry a Catherine Green Moore and if so did he have another child by her Maude b. 1914 that married a Eugene "Boney" Moore born 1908. If so do you have information on what happened to Catherine, Maude and Eugene? The rumor I have on the cousin that was alledged to have been murdered was David Shaw Headley, buried at Mount Pisgah about 1905, the same year a son was born by a Carrie Anne Wilson (of which I also lack dates and parentage). The son was named Mason Jason Headley and I don't know what became of him either. Also, is Bettie buried at Liberty Cemetery with A.J.? Can you help with any of these questions? 1. 1st message Welcome

    3. Hi everyone this will be the first post to the Chilton County list. There are currently 6 on the list but I just started releasing the info last night. I sent a notice to most of the people I correspond with and whose who had queries on the Chilton County pages. It will be a while before this list is large enough to be a good tool I'm afraid but you can help it grow by posting to any you know who may be interested and bearing with me until it grows. I intend to keep the discussion on genealogy and history but will also have to be diplomatic with off topic people as it appears to be difficult to maintain a good volume on county pages from what I've seen. I recently went to Sanford University and saw the file on Hardy Jones, a minister in earily Chilton and it was wonderful info. His journal mentions MANY of my ancestors.I will be posting the lists of founders of a few early Chilton County churchs here before i put them on my website. They also have the film for the early newspapers which i will do lookups in,but it may take quite a while for me to respound as I can't get there often. -- Dwight David Dennis,1014 Ski Lodge 3,Birmingham,Al.35209 dddennis@concentric.net,http://www.concentric.net/~Dddennis/surnames.htm Chilton County UsGenWeb page,http://www.concentric.net/~Dddennis/chilton.htm
