My Grandmother was Tera(Turah) Alabama Lawson married to William Preston Shirley. My Grandmother was one half Cherokee. She never sat with her feet on the floor. She had a little rocker without arms. she would sit down, draw her feet up under her and rock herself to sleep. It was a marvel to watch as she never tipped over. In her garden she built little teepee shaped protection around certain plants. They were made of corn stalks. I found that very fascinating. I have found postings that say "Chief Standing Deer" was Harriett's Father. I hope it's true. I only regret that I didn't ask more questions when I was little. I was 13 when my Granny died and had no interest in genealogy, at that time. I am now 85 and the only one left in my immediate family.
