Rememeber your history. All natives would have been remove or in hiding following the Indian Removal Act, before Cherokee became a county. The only "chief" in the area following War of 1812 would be Pathkiller, "Last of the Cherokee Emperor's" who has a marker in Centre. Not to say that Cherokee County does't have much history. It has a quite extensive and unique history. From the Moundbuilders, to DeSoto's encounters, and lastly the happy hunting ground of the Creek and Cherokee. Also of interest is the Indian villiage of Turkeytown. I post this not to question anyonebut to instill in their enthusium a bigger picture of the history. Hopefully I've provided some useful leds to anyone wanting to know more about the Native American inhabitants of the area and to dispell any misconceptions, Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I, for one, appreciate your posting. I have roots I am trying to prove up around Turkeytown, Ball Play and the circle that changed county boundries about 3 times and I do not think my people moved but were re-districted. Thanks. ---- "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: reedfleming2 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.cherokee/713.2.2.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Grasping at imiginary straws as far as a Chief Bigfoot.
