    1. Re: [ALCHEROK] cherokee named bigfoot
    2. Yes, some did hide and passed as white. In North Carolina some hid in the hills to avoid going on the Trail of Tears. If found they were forced on the trail anyway. An Indian (Native American)  woman married a white man was considered white and and so were her children. If an Indian (Native American) man married a white woman, she was considered Indian along with her children. Many did pass themselves off as white because Native Americans could NOT be land owners. I hope this helps.   --- On Sun, 3/28/10, gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [ALCHEROK] cherokee named bigfoot To: ALCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, March 28, 2010, 3:37 PM This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. Can I ask a question? May I know you resource for your statement I have moved to below this: " Indian (Native American) woman married a white man was considered white and and so were her children" Since NC has the Cherokee Indian Reservation, I am assuming (and that may be a mistake) this is Cherokee you are talking about. delilah ----- Original Message ----- From: <jmdgenealogy@yahoo.com> To: <alcherok@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2010 7:31 PM Subject: Re: [ALCHEROK] cherokee named bigfoot Yes, some did hide and passed as white.
