Long having served in the 11th Tennessee Union Calvary, I checked the National Park Service's online database Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System for John Long in that unit and could not find him, although there were three Longs in the unit: Alexander, Bruce E., and Josiah. Since John's middle initial is A., the Alexander Long may be him. If so, he entered as Pvt in Co. H, however there was no rank given when he left the unit although it should be stated the unit was consolidated into another unit and he may have been discharged from the latter. The CWSS shows that there were some John Longs in other Tennessee Union Calvary units. Long, John 1st Regiment Long, John 3rd Regiment Long, John D. 4th Regiment Long, John S. 1st Regiment Long, John W. 6th Regiment Long, John W. Bradford's Battalion, 13th Regiment Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
