John Long murdered Blevins Taylor on Lookout Mountain shortly after the close of the War Between the States. I am not sure how 'shortly after' because that is one of the things I am trying to find out. He was at large for a time but surrendered to a woman in Cassandra, Walker County, Georgia. He was extradicted to Alabama, tried, convicted, and given a life sentence. He served thirty years, released and died shortly thereafter. I am not sure if the murder took place in Dekalb or Cherokee Counties. I am trying to find out all the information on John Long as I can. I do not have a middle initial, dates of birth, death, or any of the court documentation. I only know the information that is presented above and all other data would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Please let me know if you have any questions. Respectfully, Gerald D. Walker County, Ga and Dade County, Ga., are located on each side of the lookout mt hiway, one is on one side, the other is on the other side, and if he was extradited back to Alabama, then the murder occurred in Alabama, else he would of been tried in Georgia, that is a capital offense, therefore a felon, and tried in the state it occurred, Dekalb County, Al. is on the AL side of where Dade & Walker Counties are in Ga., the prison for men who were felons was Kilby Prison, around Elmore Cty or the one in South Al., (forget the name) down around the Creek Nation area - and there is now Hamilton Prison in NW AL, but it is more for those prisoners that are old, so it is possible if he died in a prison, he was sent to Hamilton - do you have a year of the murder or date of the trial or any dates - it probably was some time between the murder and then the conviction - do you know how the murder occurred - there was a tree in Walker County, Ga that was called the "hanging tree" and people would hang people on that tree, it was murder - I have not heard of a Cassandra in Walker County, Ga., perhaps it was her name, but why did he surrender to a female, in that time frame? If you can get the date of death for BLEVINS, then you got more to start with, surely there are newspapers and/or court records that can be connected to that name - delilah evans ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <ALCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2010 7:19 PM Subject: [ALCHEROK] Looking for a Murderer > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: Gerald_Hodge > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.cherokee/2711/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Ladies and Gentlemen, > > I am looking for a murderer!
