"Hope you don't mind this rather lengthy article, but it seems modern-day census takers are facing some of the challenges their forebears did! No wonder we can't find our ancestors when they "should" be there!! The------" The above from Sandy made me have to add this: I did Census in 1980 and 1990. I was Crewleader with enumeraters reporting back to me with forms they had to go out and try to get completed. If people ref. to answer for them, then I had to contact the same people. you think they were mad the first time, imagine what happened when I contacted them. Need less to say, I survived- WHEE! How many of you have filled out your return and still had enumeraters come to your door and try to get you to do it over? We had two forms, short formfor our correct address East____St. and long form for West____St. We live on East____St. so we filled out the one with our address and gave it back to the mailman along with the wrong form. The census taker came to our house and said we would have to fill out the form because they hadn't got the one back for West______St. I told her it was an incorrect address, that that one wasn't ours.BTW, there is no West______St. with our same number on it.,but there was a form with that number on it. and said if we filled it out, we would be counted twice, once at an incorrect address which didn't exist. I know others on our block was contacted by same worker, as she thought we were on West_______St. We refused to fill it out again and had her take it back to her "boss". Got a call later that every thing had been taken care of. BTW it was't the workers fault, it was the fault of the mappers who did the prelim work. But, the workers should know East from West, then all they have to do is delete the one that doesn't exist. Imagine" our" decendents looking for us at two addresses.<g>. Not grin-groan. If this is to long, just delete it. If a worker comes to your house and asks you to fill ot a form and you already have, check the address, it may not be yours!!
