On the Muster Roll of 19th Ala Infantry Regiment Aug 1861 - Apr 1865 there is a William C Mackey: Private Co. H Aug 15, 1861, Centre, Ala; but I don't know if that is this William yet. As for John Thomas Mackey, he was born March 12, 1848 in Alabama. According to NORTHEAST ALABAMA SETTLERS, Vol. XXV, No. 2 October 1986, p. 55 and 56, he married Eliza Hale on November 18, 1869. It looks like Eliza and Stephen Hale were brother and sister and married Julia A. and John Thomas, sister and brother. JT died January 25, 1903.
