Merry Ann-just clues here-there was a large landowner in Cherokee Co., Joseph Westbrook, who acquired most of his land in 1845. His land adjoined my ancestor Wiley Jenkins Casey, as well as Gilbert C. Craig and William S. Acker. I don't know what happened to Joseph Westbrook or anything else about him (am not researching this line). However, in the 1850 Cherokee Co. census there's still a Westbrook family near Gilbert Craig and Wiley Casey. The h/h/ is Louisa Westbrook, age 37, and children are Pinckney, Rufus, Marcus, Joseph and James. There's also another couple living in the household. This land is fairly close to Calhoun County and Piedmont. Perhaps your Westbrooks could be descended from this Joseph. Don't know, just a thought... His dob was 1893. He had one full sister Lorena who was born in 1896. He always said when asked that his parents were Gene Westbrook and Becky Hite. He said his mother died and his father took off, leaving him and his sister with Becky's parents Andrew and Nancy Hite. Both children are enumerated with them on the 1900 census. On the 1880 census for the Hites there is a Frances R. listed who might have been "Becky". We have no paper trail on either parents. Papa said Gene's parents were Wash and Minnie Westbrook. Grandma said Minnie was a Reaves(could be spelled Reeves) I have been unable to find anything on these parents either. My great aunt who was my grandmothers sister-in-law by her brother, said that "Gene father alot of children". She is 80 and doesn't know anything other then that. I have been told that Gene was possibly Gene W. Westbrook and he had the following children, Carrie, Cora, Lester, Lum, Minnie, Robert Oscar, Mattie and Webb. Said Gene lived in Jefferson Co Ala. Robert Oscar lived in Piedmont, Calhoun Co Ala. and married Maude Melton Smart. This person said that they believed that Gene's parents were John Washington Westbrook and Margaret Reaves. This person wasn't researching this line and this is all he had. I know that Gene was alive when my father was a child and my dad was born in 1920. My father is deceased so is most of Oscars children who would know anything. I am hoping to hook up with someone researching this line. Or someone who might have a obit or burial site for Gene. I have told everyone for years that my Papa was placed here by aliens since I have found nothing on this line, haha. But some where Gene had to leave a paper trail. Any help is appreciated, Merry Ann Simmons
