That's definitely my great grandfather's sister. Speaking of obituaries, that's how I found Sallie's maiden name. Her daughter Theodosha(sp?) died and she's listed as her mother. Which, really confuses me, because 1. some think Sallie was a nickname for Sarah (she's listed on later censuses as Sarah) 2. The only Sallie Gladden I'm able to find that could possibly be her is listed as black. She's from a county bordering Cherokee and she was born the same year as the Sallie married to Albert. I realize back then she could have been 1/4 black and would have been considered black, but it's confusing nevertheless. Just seems my great aunts and uncles would know they were part African American. Would you like me to send you the death certificate for Theodosha? I'll need your email address. Your info is extremely helpful. This sounds about right. I know my great grandfather, Hershel, had a brother named William "Bill" and a sister named Maybell(sp?). May I ask how you found Sallie's maiden name? I have come up with name Gladden as well. I'm just hoping you have something I don't have. I'm having a really hard time with Albert as well. Have you found anything on him prior to 1900? I found a census showing an Albert living as a laborer in a household by the name of Farmer. I'm pretty sure it's him, but I was wondering if you had come to the same conclusion. Also I see his middle initial changes from census to census which makes it ever trickier. I also found some earlier censuses of an Albert Pruet, son of William and Phebe in Cherokee county, but there are a few discrepancies that make me question if it's the same Albert. I see your maiden name is Pruitt. Perhaps we are related! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Can you send me the link to the 1870 census you looked at? Well actually I did find census records for an Albert in 1860 and 1870, but those list his birthplace as AL, and his parent's birth places in South Carolina. I'm still trying to figure out if this is the same Albert. In regards to Sallie, some of the census records that have Albert's wife listed as "Sallie" also lists a Theo Dosia as her daughter. My mom remembers an "Aunt Dosha." I found Dosha's death certificate, and her mother's name is listed as Sallie Gladden. I'm at a loss!! P.S. Are you related to the Pruitt's?
