I glad to know that someone has already found and documented it. I am surprised to learn that it was a formal cemetery. I always thought it was just a forgotten family grave yard. It's interesting to me that there are only 15 marked graves. It seemed like a lot more thirty years ago. But of course, we were kids, and back then we'd go back there just to long enough to scare ourselves silly. Thanks again! Author: wmorgan_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.cherokee/2730.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am the world's worst at giving directions. Therefore, I am attaching a print out from Google Maps. Hopefully you can open it. I no longer know any of the people that live around this cemetery. I do not believe that there is an access road. From what I can remember, it would probably be easier to find the cemetery if you come in from the north side, where the brick house is. My grandfather lived in the trailer to the south of the cemetery. It was pretty old in the late 80's, and I can only imagine what it looks like now if it is even still there. He got permission from Cherokee County in the late 70's to block off the actual access road that went across his property because it was long unused. Let me know if you can open the attached image. If you can't I'll try to email you something. Happy hunting! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There was a long abandoned cemetery behind his property that I remember from my childhood. My grandfather moved there in the early 70's, and the cemetery was completely over grown even then. No one ever visited the cemetery in the 20 years my grandfather lived there. I do not remember any of the names on the markers. It is located off of County Road 31. The link I mentioned earlier is http://www.intelec.us/gen/cherdist.htm It seems to be a credible site but always follow up with your own research. The same with Find A Grave. I have had alot of success finding people however I have found a number of mistakes as well. I am not certain until I see a picture of the marker on Find A Grave. I have gone through the pictures I have from Mt. Lookout and there are several Becks there. I have a photo of the grave for Sarah Emiline Beck Brock and husband Zechariah Taylor Brock. There is a headstone with Beck in the same photo behind their marker. I was looking for Eliga Stafford and some of my Brock family. I think this would have been during the mid 1800's to 1880 census. I will have more time this afternoon and I will send you the link if you like. I am also looking for someone I thought was buried there. There is a very old section of the cemetery. I found several graves that were unreadable. There were a few stones I could see under a bush and one was in a tree trunk. Going by the spacing I do think there would be several unmarked graves. I will make a note of the one you are looking for and as I continue my search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
