    3. Marlene; I really don't know either, but I believe the Dawes Rolls consisted, at least in part, of past recorded data. Not knowing which tribal affiliation to go with certainly doesn't make it any easier either. I really don't know much about the tribes but I pick up a little here and a little more elsewhere. One really can get an education from some of the mailing lists. If the tribe had a written language, there would probably be records of the marriage, etc at the tribal headquarters - or whatever it is called. Some of this, if Indian Agents were mixed up in it, probably is recorded at the Bureau of Indian Affairs are their archives and maybe stored in one of the National Archives around the country. Have you contacted the OKBRYAN-L or any other OK Lists about this. They seem to have quite a few people on them that know a lot about this sort of thing. Here's hoping you get lucky quick and get a hot lead. 3. Jeannette, You mentioned Halls from Rome, Ga.; do you have an Ezekiel A. Hall b. 1830; m. Mary Andrews, b. 1821. Ezekiel was a Babtist Preacher and died in the Civil War. I have found no reference to him on any rosters; I don't know if he was a civilian casualty or what. I have 2 sons listed for him, my great grandfather, James Asbury Hall, b. Aug. 26, 1849, and David Hall (no dates). Son, James was born in Calhoun County, Alabama. James A. Hall m. on Oct. 1, 1882 to Martha Ann Malinda Vanilla Canant John Chandler, in Cherokee Co. Alabama. their children: Charlie Taylor Asbury Hall, Mary Ida Hall, Amanda Evergreen (Evie) Hall, my grandmother, Lena Estella Hall, Emma Malinda Hall, Doshia Elsie Hall. Brother David Hall m. JoAnna (?); their children : Gus Hall, Amos Hall, Willie Hall, Vanilla Hall. My great grandparents lived and died in DeKalb County, Alabama. The ages of my gg grandmother was determined from the census information. All the information on Ezekiel was passed from a cousin, then on down. In one reference the cousin wrote he was born in Ala. and in another, Ga. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thank you , Sandy Garrett Owsley

    3. Marlene, My earliest documented Hall ancestor is Drury R.Hall, who was born in SC in 1790, he, his wife and seven sons moved to Ga. in 1848. They moved from the Old Pendelton/Anderson area. I have been researching for almost 30 years, trying to establish who Drury's parents were, can't document. However, this is what I believe, I believe that he is descended from a George and Jane Hall, who arrived in Charleston, December, 1767. Jane was 27, George-26, John was 3 and Wm. was 7. They sailed from Ireland and received land grant in upper SC. I think that my Drury is the son of either that John or Wm. My Drury settled on two land lots in Murray County (Chatsworth), Ga. I believe those land lots were grants for Rev. War Service of a Wm. Hall, that land would have been in the former Cherokee County. My grandfather, Albert Lee Hall, told me many years ago that the Halls were from County Down (Belfast), now Northern Ireland. I have researched in N. Ireland, too. A historian there told me that the ship that those Halls arrived on in 1767 was one of three that were carrying people from Larne, Ballyamena and Portrush, they were Covenant Presbyterians, and were leaving because of religious persecution. I have hired professional genealogist in SC, who was no help at all. He just made scads of copies of records on a family that I had already told him that they were not my family. I tried the Ulster Historical Society in Belfast and they informed me that their early records had been destroyed and that my best bet would be point of entry into US. Again, I have no proof past Drury! I keep hoping that someday someone from SC will contact me regarding Drury. If I am ever able to document anything past Drury, I'll share it with you. Cherokee County, Ala. is in northern Alabama, not very far from Rome, Ga. Some of the SC Halls settled in Rome, too.
