Well, it has been one year since I last updated my home page. Where does the time go? I did not upload all the revised, individual family trees yet because most of my pages are on GEOCITIES.COM and they made it more difficult and time consuming to upload since they disallowed use of ftp. I would possibly have to individually upload about 10,000 files and I'll just have to peck away at it. I did create a few new family trees and descendancy charts. One of the main updates includes deleting over 100 dead links and adding more than 100 new ones and I tested them all. I injured my leg trying out for the softball team and I've been out of work for over a week and I was able to use that time to get these revisions completed. Please check the web pages and let me know of any obvious errors. If you sent additions, deletions or changes to the previous revision and don't see your info updated, don't fret. I've input all the data into my database but it will take a while to get all those files uploaded. Also, if you shouldn't be on my mail list let me know. I need to update it too. Hi, I would appreciate any help, from anyone on this family or about these places. Tyre G. Freeman, was a preacher and preached at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, and also the Ephesus Church in Chambers County. Tyre took charge of the LaFayette Female Academy in 1850. Tyre died in 1854 in Chambers County, while a member of the Ephesus Church. Tyre's widow sold his land to their son - in - law, H. Brunt in 1876. He later mortgaged the land. The land was in Township 21, Range 29, which I would think would put it, in or around Riverview. I was sent a news paper clipping about the Parnell place. It stated that the log house that Parnell lived in first, was built for Rev. Tyre Freeman. After visiting with some people that had lived there all their life, {ca. 60-70 yrs.} it seems they did not know about the log cabin. I was told to talk to C. J. Snowden or a Mr. Leeks. Mr. Snowden was not home and I understand, not well. Mr. Leeks is the father of the Mayor, I understand and is in his 90's. It was late and we had to head homeward. I must say, everyone we talked to was very nice and friendly. I would like to know more about all this, but for health reasons, it may be some time before I can get back up that way. If any of you can help in any way, I sure would appreciate it. An address or phone number for these people would help also. Thanks, Catherine cliepins@troycable.net
Hi James, I look forward to finally meeting you. You should bring those old store papers from the General store in Milltown, I bet they'd get a kick out of it. I'd love to see them. I like looking through things like that. I really want to do some research while I'm there, I will have a week. Just not much money to do things. Cousins all got together and got me a ticket so I could come. being on disability is no picnic. Earnest Brisky has been taking care of the cemetary. I'll be staying with Faye Ingram in Dadeville. Sounds like a nice lady. Anyway, I'm getting excited about coming. I don't know who Burke is or the relation to Brisky? Anyway keep in touch. To reach family there doing it for help. I know Earnest would probably appreciate the help. Earnest Brisky 3004 County Rd #388 Valley Rd Valley, AL 36854 334-756-4859 evenings best he works or Faye Ingram 1618 Denver Rd Dadeville, Al 256-825-4825 That is where I will be staying. I arrive on Delta airlines on October 5th about 4:30pm. Sandel
I'm just South of Atlanta, about 50 miles from Lanett. I saw your earlier email. I'm planning on being there. We need to get someone to clean the cemetery about a week before. I hope that's being taken care of. Years ago, a lady in West Point had the key to the cemetery. Her name was Mary Elizabeth Burke. Who was she? My Aunt Mary Elizabeth Burke lived in Lanett but I know they were not the same. James "Lee" Weaver A Certified, "Son of the South." James, I think a lot of people (myself included sometimes) forget that the Internet is like having a huge set of encyclopedias, phone books and maps at their fingertips. I get requests frequently to look up a phone number in the Fayette or Coweta phone book. I remind them that the information is just a keystroke away. Thanks for that information on Chambers County. I'm interested in Dormans and Abernathys and would love to know more about the ancestry of the Boyds in Boyd's Tank. Judy in Newnan, GA
There are only three real cities in Chambers County. They are Lanett, Valley and LaFayette, LaFayette being the county seat and Valley being an amalgamation of Shawmut, Langdale, Fairfax, River View and some small unincorporated communities. There are more than 100 small communities, churches, cemeteries, schools, crossroads, ghost towns and other geographic entities that have been and still retain a name of some sort. Many of these are still marked on a decent map but a stranger would more than likely drive right through them and never know it. I would suggest buying a program like Street Atlas if you plan on doing any serious genealogical research. Should one not desire to but a map program, I would suggest a web page like mapquest.com. There one may browse any community but Stree Atlas will show cemeteries and other features not available on web maps. There is another option available at terraserver.com. Here one may examine actual satellite photographs of most any area and switch between the photo and a topographic chart. James "Lee" Weaver A Certified, "Son of the South."
