Judy, thanks for your reply to my inquiry. I did have the census record that you sent but appreciate your thoughts and time. Mary
Hello, I was just in Chambers County for Briskey family reunion in October. My cousin and I did some research at the Lafayette, AL Court house where old papers are stored for Chambers County. And right after I left she went back and found out they had boxes of 1800's papers (Including Briskey's) in a store room. In boxes. It's a shame they can't give those to the historical society in Valley. So families could have them documented. They are charging $1.00 per sheet. She still plans on going back for more. Some of the papers are so damaged by weather and age. It's a shame all that is getting lost. Thank You! I have downloaded this information for future reference. So far, I cannot make a connection, but that might chance as more data becomes available. Jim Webb
Jim, I am not sure if this is the Hamby's you are looking for but I would say that it is a very good possibility of being in your lines. This page is documented from and has lines from NC, GA, SC ect. It would be a good reference point in the least. There is a Riley Hamby on the page. http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:kbvwoHdc9N4C:server3001.freeyellow.com/ hedivine/FrancesHamby.rtf+%22james+w+hamby%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
James Pledge Hamby married ??? McCullough, date unknown, both lived in Lee Co., AL at one time; they had one known son James Riley Hamby (Sr.), possibly born in Lanett, Chambers Co., AL and died in 1957 in Lanett, Chambers Co., AL., John married Margaret Mae "Maggie" Allen, who was the daughter of George Washington Allen and Margaret Morgan, Margaret died in 1961 in Lanett, Chambers Co., AL. John Riley and Margaret had two known sons: James W. Hamby, born July 17, 1903, in Lanett, Chambers Co., AL and James Riley Hamby (Jr.). Any information or suggestions that you wish to share with me on any, or all, of these families would be appreciated. Jim Webb - Jacksonville, Fla.

I'm trying to get census records before 1850. Chambers County, AL Sandel BRISKEY-L@rootsweb.com also Lafayette court house has a building across the street with boxes of files from 1800's on families. A shame that Historical Scocieties in those counties can be given that paperwork.
The Mormon church has placed the 1880 census online and there is no charge to use it. go to www.familysearch.com and follow the links on the left column and enjoy finding your ancestors. It is searchable by name and can be filtered, by country, state, county, city, race, and sex. Rex Rex A. Thanks for info. I just returned from Chambers County Briskey family reunion. Valley Library in Valley, Alabama, Chambers County Historical Society has some wonderful resource books. Next year I know where I'm spending more time. $10.00 a year to join. We are starting an archive of sorts for the Briskey/Brisky family of Milltown, Al and downloading everything we have onto cds. We eventually hope to get a copy to the historical society to use for those researching that family. We are setting the family cemetary up on a non profit so they can raise funds to preserve the family cemetary. I was told that they bought land from an Indian Chief. I think it was McIntosh. I found evedence of some from McIntosh family. And Julia McIntosh married a Briskey. Was also told after I got back that their was a chief burried along the creek on the plantation grounds. I don't know where they would be or if anything still exists. We did find two baby graves across the street from the homestead that no one knew about. There are other babys barried there too. We are seeing about having them put into the family cemetary. They are in pretty bad shape. I wish I'd of had more time. I found the people wonderful in Alabama wherever I went they we're most helpful and very friendly. Sure a change from Seattle city life. Hello, I just returned from Chambers County, Alabama. Milltown, Valley area. I did a lot of research on my Briskey family while I was there. people we're so helpful. And found a wonderful resource through Historical Society at the Valley Library in Valley, AL. They have a room dedicated to family history. And includes parts of Georgia and SC and Alabama. Which alabama was not a state until after the American Indian Wars. And I never realized how close it was. My cousin was only 7 miles from Horseshoe bend battle ground. War of 1812,1813-1814 with the creek Indian Nation. And she was 10 miles from Shiloh. All that is in Shiloh is the Shiloh Church and Cemetary. I found amazing after such a big battle ragged there. We are trying to start a non profit to preserve our family plantation. Briskey Cemetary which was a plantation cemetary with slaves barried there from 1830's. The Sheriff is going to have prisoners from the jail in Lafayette come and help clean and put up a new fence around the cemetary. And we are also starting a Briskey/brisky Archive for those who wish to use information. Will eventually be turned over to Historical Society in Chambers County at Valley Library for use. So those who would be interested feel free to contact me. I found the people wonderful and so warm and friendly. Was a pleasant change from city life of Seattle area. Oops .. Sorry. That was supposed to go to Judy Blaydoe. But the thought is the same. Wish everyone would put more sources/information in their notes on Rootsweb files. It gives a lot more credibility to the research. Judy
Judy, Thanks for the words of encouragement. I also wanted to say that I like the way you put all the notes in your Rootsweb files. Sure is easy to see where you're coming from with your information. Wish others would do that. Judy
