I really know nothing about this family but I do have a Melton that married Abner Torbert. Her name is Lois Melton but much later date...She was born 1880 and died 1974. Maybe someone has more on her. Judy I am trying to find a Henry Clay Boazman (Boseman) that married Martha Jane Brooks. They adopted my grandmother Ruth Calvert Wallace. ----- Original Message ----- From: <AngelSandel@aol.com> To: <ALCHAMBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2003 9:21 PM Subject: Re: [ALCHAMBE-L] Melton Family Milltown, AL > Hello, > I was in Alabama for family reunion in October of last year. Hello, I was in Alabama for family reunion in October of last year. We visited Briskey family homestead or where it stood we found two baby graves unknown to anyone under brush. One had the last name of Melton. Trying to find out what family this child could have possibly belonged too, there was another next too it but it's headstone was pretty much destroyed. We'd like to find some kin. We don't know how many more under the underbrush. There is a Briskey Cemetary out there our family still has. But this was across the county road from where the homestead stood. Many children died in 1800's of typhoid. If anyone know who Melton's might be in Milltown, AL or Chambers County would be appreciated. Thank you. Rose, Do you know who these Jordan's are, listed with these Griffin's? Becky
Rose, Oh yes, now I remember! I had forgotten, that one of Lovick's daughters married into the Burdette family! It seems all of my groups are so intertwined! Now, do you have anything on this Pearson, and do you have her name as Tabitha? Some feel that she connects with my mother's side, as my mother's GGrandmother, was Clarissa Pearson, and she was married to a William Ward. They were both married in Fayette Co. Ga., and the Clarissa Pearson and William Ward, ended up in Randolph. I know the Tabitha, or some call her Selitha, had a daughter named Clarissa. The Ellen P. was Lovick's P.'s daughter, and she was married to the Elijah Beaird. The Ellen P., and Elijah are my GGrandmother, Susan Ella Beaird's parents! Hi, I'm sorry you didn't sign your name, but I recognize you're email address, and know you're on my Burdette group! Yes, this is my Lovick P. Jordan. Are you connected to the Jordan's as well as the Burdette's? Would you have anymore info on any of this family? I haven't been able to find who the Malinda Ann Freeman belonged to. Angie, There is a marriage license for Trammell and Artimesia Miller (I think 1855) in Chambers Co. I'm related to Blackmons (Harris Co, GA and Chambers Co, AL..and whereever else they may have gone-Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, but I haven't dug into that yet). There are Pattersons who married Reams sisters in Tallapoosa Co, AL. The McCollough interest is only because of the name Musa Blackmon, and the fact that she was applying to the DAR because of the McCollough connection. I had a greataunt named Musa Blackmon m. Herring. Musa anybody is strange, but two of them named Blackmon is against the odds. Your welcome. You know we found a lot of 1800's records. Also my cousin after I left found a room full of storage boxes of 1800's records. I guess LDS Church is going to be doing them soon. I wish I would have had more time to spend a week went by really fast, and I had no idea there was so much history there. Our familys homestead was only about 7 miles from Shiloh, and 10 miles from the War of 1812 with the Indians. Amazing. It's not at all like what you picture it. All that's left of Shiloh is a Big white church and cemetary. Beautiful country though. Hi Everyone, The will book index that Lynda is so graciously transcribing and sharing with us is being posted at http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/al/chambers/court.htm and covers 1852 A few people have copies of those wills and transcribed them which will be listed at the same address. Unfortunately many of the wills have not been shared and Lynda does not have copies to all of these wills. They will be located at the County Courthouse in Chambers County or if you live near a local Family History Center (Church of Latter Day Saints) the microfilm can be ordered through them. http://www.familysearch.org/ Please if any one has copies or orders copies of these wills that you can share consider sending them to me for posting on Chambers Co. AlGenweb and ALArchives!!! There is a simple form at http://www.poppet.org/alfiles/ which will allow you to transcribe the record, post it to the Archives and send a copy to the mailing list all at once or you can send them to me at poohbos@poohbos.com or Lynda at deller@mindspring.com CHAMBERS COUNTY COURTHOUSE 18 Alabama Avenue LaFayette, AL 36862 Phone: (334) 864-4341 FAX: (334) 864-4387
Loney, I am sorry but I do not have a copy of his will. Are you referring to James Munroe McNamee who died at LaFayette July 5, 1859? Lynda
Sharon, What are the dates on your Miles Smedley? I have a Middleton Milledge Smedley who married Mary Jane Smith. There was a whole family grouping that came from South Carolina to Troup Co., GA and over to Chambers Co. by 1860. There are several people working on these families. One of the men was a War of 1812 soldiers and his father who came with them was old enough to be Rev. War possible. There is still an area known as the Smedley farm down here. Lynda
