Delilah, I've figured out a few more. Hand written (fancy) on back of William Crawford Dowdell, his wife, Lizzie Dowdell, William Stuart Riddle, and little girl in pink dress--sorry don't have numbers right here on actual pictures--is: Photo by McIntyre, Auburn. The other AL photographers are: (stamped) J. Sweney, Montgomery, Ala. J.H. Lakin, Selma, Alabama Rosenberger and David, Selma, Alabama Chauncey Barnes and Wallace, 87 Dauphin St., Mobile, Ala. C. Barnes, No. 56 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Ala. Wallace and Hooben, Tuskegee, Ala. The pictures from Athens, GA. are all from C.W. Motes, Broad Street. Gretchen
Delilah, Picture # 15 says on the back: Jabe McGhee, Photographer, Ala. #18 and #29 are blank on the back, but say on the front: JABE and AUBURN. William Callahan (also spelled Calleham) Thomas was married 4 times: 1. Nancy Whitehead 2. Elizabeth Whitehead 3.Margaret Cotton 4.Catharine Hubbard Dowdell Of course, he had lots of kids, but one was a physician. Dr. David S. Thomas, b 31 May 1805 in Chambers Co., and d. 5 Aug. 1881 in Cusseta, AL. He was married to Rebecca Minter, that I know of, and was the son of Elizabeth Whitehead. Since I've typed this out for you, might as well send it to the list, too. Thanks for your interest. Gretchen

Thank you for the compliments, and thank you for looking at the site. Gretchen
Those are fabulous pictures, wish I could lay claim to some of them, I got excited with the Dowdell ones as I have Dodwell in my family from the same vicinity. Treasure them a lot and thanks for sharing them.\ Rex
We found a picture album from 1867 with pictures of the Wm. Callaham Thomas family and connected families, most of whom lived around Oak Bowery, AL. The problem is that most of these pictures are unidentified. So we've put these pictures on-line in hopes that someone has seen pictures of these people before, and might recognize someone. This is a small freebie site, so if it's unavailable, (timed out), at the time you visit, please go back later. http://www.geocities.com/daviswilliams2003 Thank you. That is an incredibly large collection of old photos -- wish our family had so many from that era. You're very lucky and they've been kept in such good condition!
