    1. Re: [ALCHAMBE-L] Need help with family from Lanett AL
    2. Hello, one place to check is with the Valley, (Chambers County) Al. Historical Society. They are packed with all kinds of goodies. I wish I'd had more time to spend there. I found out in lanett when looking up a tavern record once owned in partnership with my gr gr gr grandfather we stopped in at city clerks office in Lanett and she said that city really didn't start keeping records until around 1920.s Many churchs kept birth records back then, or they we're written in family bibles. Do you know what church they may have belonged to? So much of the papers there in that area of alabama are getting lost in store rooms. They had a bunch of boxes at the main city clerks office at Lafayette Alabama court house. My cousin discovered it after I'd left. I guess LDS churchs we're going in to start down loading. But the only thing so many are so damp from years of wear it's a shame they don't donate those to historical families. Or give to family members if they still live in there area. Good luck in your research Sandel BRISKEY-L@rootsweb.com Seattle Surnames; Briskey,Brisky,Brisque,Demastus,Sutton,Meadows,Hodnett,Moore,McIntosh,Leverett (States, SC, GA Chambers County, AL washington state and TX, and France) Willing to share and trade ALSO might check out the new Chambers County website on rootsweb under US Genealogy sites for the state.

    3. Hi, I wasn't able to find any of the names you gave me in the Cemetery book but there was a Cynthia Gunn, William Nathan Gunn, W.C. Gunn, Mrs. S.A. Gunn & Epsie Gunn Penn. I did find a newspaper article in Allie Abernathy's Scrapbook about a man named Thomas A. Gunn. Is he a member of you family? In the Heritage of Chambers Co. I found several articles about the Gunn family and Jesse. The is one about a J Henry Colson but that is the only thing on the Colson family. There are several marriages for Gunn's int he marriage books but no Colson's. Do you have a Moses Gunn.. I also found articles about him in another book. I also found Jesse in the 1840 census. If you need any copies let me know.
