    3. Dear Walt The only reference I can find in my books for the name Clanahan is one in the marriage book 1833-1866 for a Josephine Clanahan who married a Lewis Wilson 12-20-1865 and she married at the residence of an R.A. Clanahan. Elizabeth Clanahan married C.J. Slaughter 12-21-1865 at the residense of Mrs. Clanahan. William H. Clanahan married Rosilla Vernon 10-25-1845. There also a listing in two places in the Heritage Book both are referring to William H. and his marriage to Rosilla and her second marriage. 3. Thanks a lot for the information, Linda. It may very well come in handy one day. At present, however, I think my Clanahan family must have left Chambers and moved to Coosa County, AL sometime before 1840. The William H. CLANAHAN who married Rosilla VERNON in 1845 sounds interesting though. Robert and Catherine CLANAHAN (my third great grandparents) had two older sons, one or both of whom may have remained in Chambers County. Unfortunately, however, I do not know their names. At any rate, thanks for the information. Every little bit helps. 3. Have you checked Heritage Quest and Ancestry at your local university, or FH Library? Usually you can use them without any cost there. I work at BYU FHL 2 days a week and I can access all census that are available. I prefer HEritage Quest but not all areon either site. Helene

    3. Helene- Thanks for your responses. I do believe that John Guthrie in 1840 Chambers Co. links to my Benjamin (in 1842 Chambers Co. tax book) and also to the James M. Guthrie (who m. Delila Guthrie in Chambers Co. 1843) but I keep going in circles. Even more coincidences: 6 Oct 1843 Chambers Co. AL James M. GUTHREY made application for marriage license to marry Delila E. F. GUTHREY (over age of 18) . Bond by James M. GUTHREY and Robert J. SHAW. A Robert SHAW age 20-30 lives 2 houses from the mysterious John Guthrie in 1840 Chambers Co. AL census. Also I wonder if this John is the same (he lives next to two of Benjamin Guthrie's sons i.e. William H. and Rev. James E.!! 1850 Tallapoosa Co. AL census- John Guthrew in house 1178 next to HH1177 James Guthrew and HH1180 William Guthrew . John age 27 Farmer $200 b. GA; Jane 26 GA; Joshua 17 GA; Thomas 13 GA (likely my ancestor Thomas Guthrie b. July 1836 and believed son of Benjamin) ; Rosbery (female) 12 GA; Rebecca 10 GA; Caroline 8 GA; William 7 AL; Harville 6 AL. It is possible that the children in this home were a combination of sons/daughters and siblings. Thanks again for your input. ----- Original Message ----- From: Helene To: ALCHAMBE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2003 3:22 PM Subject: Re: [ALCHAMBE-L] GUTHRIE Marriages 1840's John Guthrie is in the 1840 Chambers Co., census. 1 M & 2 F under 5, 3 males 5-10, 2 f 10-15, 2 M & 2F 15-20, 1 F 30-40, 1 M 40-50 . 3. Anyone have additional info on this Benjamin Guthrie? 1820 Benjamin is in Laurens Co. SC and 1830 in Troup Co. GA (West Point area). 19 Nov 1839 William GOLDEN Jr. of Tallapoosa Co. sells to Benjamin GUTHREY of Troup Co. GA for $180.50 tract of land in Chambers Co. AL containing 80 and 4/100 acres....East half of the Northwest quarter of Section Seven in Township Twenty one Range 25 or 24?. Recorded 9 Nov 1840 Chambers Co. AL. Witness William H. PASS and James M. GUTHREY. (Note: Wm. PASS was in Troup Co. earlier).......Open Item- Is James M. Guthrey a brother or son or other relation to Benjamin? I checked the Chambers Co. Deed Index 1838-1870 under "G" but no other Guthrie entries. Open Item-- Ben's land purch in 1839 had to have been sold/conveyed at a later date?? Perhaps sale is in Index under another Letter i.e. an Administrator's name. 1840 Cannot locate Benjamin Guthrie in AL or GA census 1842- Benjamin is listed in the 1842 Chambers Co. Tax List, Beat #1 Kendall Crossroads. 1842 Chambers Co. AL Tax Book ( I reviewed the original Book at AL Archives) Benjamin GUTHERY is listed in Beat #1 (Kendall Crossroads). Shows "72" under Land which I assume to be # of acres. (He is the only GUTHREY in the 1842 book, though a few names were missing due to deteriorated and ripped pages)

On April 18, 1835, with the aid of three Baptist ministers of Georgia, seven persons holding letters from Baptist hurches met at the home of James Taylor, Sr.. These seven persons were constituted in to a church alled Bethesda. Elder Francis Calloway served the church until Bethesda got a regular pastoron July 18, 1835............. 1. [ALCHAMBE-L] Bethesda Baptist Church
    2. Christine Walters
    3. Does anyone know anything about the Bethesda Baptist Church? It is mentioned in the obituary of Derrell Hart who died in 6 Sep 1855 in Cusseta, Chambers Co. AL. The obit says he joined the church in 1834, his wife Jane Pitts Hart had joined previously in 1824. I'm trying to find the cemetry Derrell Hart is buried in - thinking perhaps there is one that is/was connected with the church. I am also looking for early history of this church.. Please email me - if you have any information... Christine Walters chrisw1940@yahoo.com http://www.angelfire.com/tn3/hart/index.html ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
