    3. The Alabama Department of Archives & History have a search for their newspapers online at http://www.archives.state.al.us/newsmicro/search.cfm It's easy, simply put in the county Chambers and search. They also give information on purchasing the newspapers as well as borrowing them through interlibrary loans. It was shared by Oleen Pollard who has been seeking to find those men who were buried there. Meredith Thrower from Chambers Co. is one who died and is buried in that cemetery. If anyone knows of others who are buried there, please let Oleen or myself (Debra Crosby poohbos@poohbos.com) know. Below is what Oleen had to say about the monument: "We have been trying to find the names of the men that died at Camp. It was Menengitis that swept through the camp with a vengence. We have some history that the SCV published in the 80's. It was the work a lady with the UDC had done and mainly correspondence with those still living that were in camp here. The UDC erected a monument to the memory of those who died here. I have attached a picture. Meredith Thrower from Chambers Co. Al was one who died here and it is in memory of him also. They erected the monument about 1920. The following is a quote from the book History of Camp Beauregard. It describes the monument a bit "The confederate flag falls gracefully over the top of the boulder, with the following inscription, worded by Gen. A. B. Booth, Adjutant General and Chief of Staff, United States Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana on the front side. CAMP BEAUREGARD MEMORIAL IN MEMORY OF THE LOYAL MEN WHO DIED HERE SEPTEMBER 1861 TO MARCH 1862 FOR THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA, AND WERE THUS DENIED THE GLORY OF HEROIC SERVICE IN BATTLE. Erected by the Kentucky Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Beauregard Monument Association of Louisiana. " After the local Tilghman-Beauregard SCV Camp was formed in 1988 they published the book and used the proceeds from the sale of it to redo the step base around the monument. They were chipped and flaked and really in need of repair." Additional Comments: 1850 Chambers Co. 2. Hello, I'm also researching the same area. My gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky had a plantation in Milltown. A couple of ideas. I have a copy of this book Heritage of Chambers County,AL by Heritage Publishing Company, and you might be able to obtain a copy to look at through your local library inner library loan dept. Published in 1999 has a lot of early settlers and names and addresses of those who summitted the articles which we're decendents. Also Bobby Lindsey's book "Reason For the Tears" has a lot of Early Settlers from the area as he was from the area. Also, the valley library in Valley Alabama is the Historical Society for the area. Full of resources. You might contact them. And also, Lafayette, AL courthouse is where the documents for the Chambers County,AL area are located. I went down for a reunion the year before last. And we got a lot of info and old papers. And I'm hoping to maybe go back later this year. 3. Looking for any information on Osborne (Osbourn) Gibson family 1970 Census Chambers county states he was a wholesale Grocer age 47. His Wife Minnie Elizabeth Gibson is from the Cameron family of Troup County. Daughter Lula is listed in the census in 1970 but does not show up with the family in 1980. After Osbourne's death the Mother Minnie Elizabeth came to Florida with the sons. I know what happened to all of them, but we do not have any information on where Lula may have gone. I think she married before the family came to Fl and she stayed in the area. Any information on Lula Gibson age 16 in the 1870 census would be appreciated, Thanks Janie Jansenius

    1. Re: [ALCHAMBE-L] Need Advice WELCH/WELSH surnames in Chambers County, AL
    2. Hi Linda - Thank you SO very much. I greatly appreciate you and your efforts in doing this. Hopefully, tomorrow I will have time to look up HIGGINS for you in the MS books and I will let you know. I will send you the names and then copy whatever you want me to and mail to you as well. We have two miniature poodle sisters (same litter) and the smallest one just had her gallbladder removed and was hospitalized 6 days and 5 nights. So the last two weeks have been a nightmare for me and my husband. She is home now and recovering and requiring lots of TLC. She was on 11 meds daily the first week and is now down to 6 meds daily, plus two antiobiotic injections daily and now down to none (my husband gave them to her). SO, you can imagine, it has been hectic around here. We are just SO thankful that she is recovering day by day. She's such a sweetie and we are SO attached to her. Hopefully by next week we will be able to get back to a more normal routine. Plus this is my husband's fourth week of retirement so it is busy in that manner as well. Lots going on. I definitely WILL do this for YOU. Just please be patient another day or two for me. Thanks so much. And, thank you again and again for making the copies re WELSH/WELCH that you did and mailing to me. Take care. Have a good evening. P.S. Thank you for taking in those heavy books to your office and having to walk so far. I know they get heavy. The MS book is 642 pages and quite large and heavy as well. Remember The Passion of Christ. 3. Hi I have found several things in other books I have that might help you so I will copy them also. There are several mentions of the name Welch/ Welsh in the Heritage Book but mostley in reference to the area known as Welsh in Chambers Co. I will copy the article about the family for you as well as the other items. I will include the title page from the book with the copyright in case you need it for a reference. It will take a few days as I can only take one book a day to work to copy as they are heavy and they make us park way out in the north forty and walk. Once I get them all copied I will get them in the mail to you. There is no charge as I do this to help others as so many people have helped me. Just pass the favor along to someone else if you get the chance. I really enjoy helping others find their family members.
