Ellis Jr., 50, Selma, who died at 7 a.m. following a short illness. Services were to be conducted by the Rev. Albert Kaylor and the Rev. Jack Sharpe. Johnson-Brown Service Funeral Home, Langdale, will be in charge of burial. Mr. Ellis was a native of Abanda, born July 20, 1918, a son of Mrs. T.E. Ellis Sr., Langdale, and the late Mr. Ellis. He was a former resident of Langdale and was an aircraft mechanic at Craig Air Force Base in Selma. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Ellis, Brewton, and Barry Ellis, Selma; three sisters, Mrs. R.A. Hanson, Tuscaloosa, Mr. Albert Rice, FaibanKs, Alaska, and Mrs. Jack McGee, Texas, three brothers, Oliver Ellis, Fairfax, Don Ellis, Omaha, Neb., and Robert Ellis, Roswell, GA. Additional Comments: My Uncle Thomas' obit is set up the same way as my grandfather's, and I know his body was brought from Mobile to Langdale to be buried, but I have nothing as to where that obit was published. The newspaper does not have a year and I have been unable to find any of my documents that list a death date. I know he is buried in the same plot with Thomas & Addie in the Fairfax cemetery. Apr20, 1966 OBIT Thomas E. Ellis Langdale, Ala - Thomas E. Ellis, 80, a former Chambers County Commissioner, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Batson Memorial Hospital in LaFayette, after a brief illness. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Langdale First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Howard Marks officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery. A native of Lamar County, Ala, Mr. Ellis was a son of the late John and Molly Ellis, and had lived in Chambers County for some 49 years. Mr. Ellis served as a commissioner in the 1920's, and also taught in the Chambers County School System for some 20 years. He was a retired employee of Johnson and Co. in Langdale. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Addie Homan Ellis, Langdale; three daughters, Mrs. R.A. Hanson, Tuscaloosa, Mrs. Albert Rice, San Angelo, Tex., and Mrs. Jack McGee, Harlingen, Tex; four sons, Thomas, E. Ellis Jr., Mobile, Oliver Ellis, Fairfax, Don Ellis, U.S, Air Force, Philippine Islands, and Robert Ellis, Milton, Fla. four brothers, Bill alnd Marvin Ellis, both of Tuscaloosa, Lemuel Ellis, Brownsville, and Homer Ellis, Columbus, Miss.; 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 2, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with the Rev. Danny Spear officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Linda (Dr. Tony) Dollar of Dothan, Alabama; his son-in-law, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Earl Milner of Littleton, Colorado; his grandchildren, Jeremy Dollar of Columbus, Georgia, Brantley Dollar of Mobile, Alabama, and Robert Milner of Littleton, Colorado; his brother, Dudley Smith, of Valley; and his sister, Mildred Bartlett of Valley; and several other cherished relatives and friends. Born April 11, 1908, in Notasulga, Alabama, Mr. Smith was the oldest child of Robert E. Smith, Sr., and Florrie Dudley Smith. They moved to West Point in 1913. His family relocated to Fairfax in 1917, and he attended high school there. He attended Tennessee Technical College and graduated from North Carolina State University with high honors, receiving both bachelor of science and master's degrees in textile engineering. His senior year, he won the National Manufacturers' Medal as the best textile student. He was elected to Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Honorary, in addition to being a member of the NC State band, orchestra and glee club. Mr. Smith was employed for 51 years at Fairfax Mill with West Point Pepperell. His positions included production manager, towel development manager, assistant manager of both Finishing and Manufacturing Mills and at his retirement in 1973, he was serving as manager of the Fairfax Finishing Mill. Mr. Smith was active in the Boy Scouts of America, having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, in addition to serving as Scout Master for seven years. A lifelong member of Fairfax First Christian Church, Mr. Smith taught adult Sunday school classes for over 45 years. In addition to serving on the church board for many years, he was also chairman of the board and was a member and former director of the church choir. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Pauline Burford Smith of Lanett; his daughter, Anita Putnam Milner of Littleton, Colorado; and brothers Hunter Smith of Valley and Clifford Smith of Lanett. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
