    3. Paul, I read your post with GREAT interest! The two brickwalls in my research are MOORE and METCALF. I have a Samuel E. METCALF, who according to a pension application filed after his death, was born in 1818 in Hamilton Co, TN. He first appears on census records in Benton Co, married to the former Fannie PHILLIPS, and they had several children. At the time of his death, Samuel was a Benton Co Constable, and he was killed by accident at the sheep farm he owned. According to the newspaper account of his death, the fellow that killed him was there to kill Samuel's half-brother, Hiram MOORE. I have no clue as to where the MOORE comes from, but it's there. Also, Samuel's daughter, Lydia Emily METCALF, married Sidney Marion MOORE, son of David MOORE and the former Louisa CHANDLER. David is my other brickwall! His pension application states he was born in 1826 in AL....That's it! David first appears on census records in Cherokee Co, AL, but little else is known about him before then. David fought in the Civil War and never returned to his wife and children, opting to marry a woman by the name of Sophronia Ray in Gattman, MS. David lived the rest of his life til 1901 (?) in Lamar Co, AL. I have been told my whole life that we have "Indian ancestors," but it wasn't where I was led to believe it was, but I am 99% sure that it comes from the MOORES! My great-great aunt, Nancy Moore Lowery, daughter of Sidney Marrion Moore and Lydia Emily Metcalf had EVERY characteristic of an Indian and the more she aged, the clearer it became....The same is true for my own mother! Does any of this ring a bell for you? I surely hope it does....E-mail me for further information! Thanks! Pruning the family tree ISN'T allowed! (Mainly a note to MY relatives!)
