Update on Publication of Floyd County, GA Heritage Book... The final proofing of "The Heritage of Floyd County, GA" was mailed on January 15, 2000. We are looking for a late January or very early February publication. The Floyd County Heritage Book Committee is very excited about this book...especially considering we have volunteered a lot of time over the past year and a half helping put this together for Walsworth Publications. It is a beautiful collector's edition hardbound book written by and about people of Floyd County, Georgia. It features over 500 family articles and over 300 topical stories and over 500 photographs. The color is "leaf green" with stamped gold lettering and borders with a gold outline of Floyd County, inset with the historic Clock Tower. The county and Clock Tower are enclosed within a double-ringed gold-stamped oval. Though there are many wonderful stories about people, communities, churches, schools and businesses, there are two special stories that I am glad made it in this book. Both of these deal with local landmarks that have been destroyed since we first sent all submissions in for publication. These landmarks are the old Rock Store along Kingston Highway in the Johnson School community and the 100+ year old Foster's Mill Store along Ga. 100 south of Rome. For more information about ordering or when the book will be available, please contact me at the e-mail address below. Snail-mail inquiries may be sent to the committee address. e-mail: FloydBook@aol.com Snail-mail: Floyd County Heritage Book P. O. Box 6096 Rome, GA 30162 Sincerely, Tony Pope, Co-Chair Floyd County Heritage Book Committee

I am very interested in the family of William M. Hughes of Choccolocco. My husband's great-grandfather, James M. Williams married Martha Hughes in Calhoun County around 1869. (His grandfather was born in 1870.) This information comes from my husband's grandfather's Social Security application and family tradition. I just cannot find a marriage certificate for this marriage. Martha was dead before 1880. James M. William's brother (William Frank Williams) married Eliza Jane Hughes in 1866 in Calhoun County. It would only stand to reason that Eliza Jane and Martha Hughes were sisters who married brothers. I would love to correspond with anyone interested in this family. Thanks, Clara Williams

I am trying to locate my relatives who were Calhoun County residents for several years in about 1850. They are John Edward Williams, his wife, who I think was named Jane Weatherby Willliams, and their two sons. One would be Alexander Campbell Williams, who would have been 2 in about 1850 and Joseph Jerome Napoleon Bonaparte Williams, who was born about 1850. After Calhoun County they moved to northern Alabama--Franklin County. If anybody has any information on this family, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks. Evelyn, Again, thanks for your response. I look forward to receiving a copy of the 1880 census for Samuel Penland. There is a Myra E. Penland who married William Harris Graham. I suspect she may have been Samuel's sister. She was born Nov. 24, 1832 (two years prior to Samuel) and died May 18, 1921. I have not seen her obit...but it may make mention of Dorcas. She is buried in Carmel Presbyterian, Cherokee Co., Alabama like Samuel. Laura
hi, does anyone know a Buford Stephens born around 1930 Piedmont,Ala. he was in the navy with my dad Leonard G.Criswell. Pam Criswell Potter
Hello Laura, Thank you for the info on Jane and Sam. You gave me lot more than what I had. I stumbled upon them by a look up for Dorcas. I do believe she must be related to one of them or perhaps she was a servant to them. Do you know if Jane or Sam has a connection to the Logan or Crow families? I have the page of the 1880 census they are on in my computer and will be glad to send it to you if you would like it. My husband's Father lives in Calhoun Co. Al. now, but does not remember enough to be helpful. Blessings Evelyn Laura Graham wrote: > Evelyn, > > I am working on our Graham line...Rebecca Jane Graham is the daughter of > John R.
