    1. Early Churches
    2. Hi List, This is a rephrasing of an earlier question, since I apparently did not make it clear what I am looking for. Around 1825-30, a large contingent of Scotch-Irish Presbyterians in SC broke from the church, mainly over the issue of slavery (after the SC legislature voted in favor of it.) Many of those opposed went to Illinois & Ohio. This also coincided with the opening of Alabama territory due to the Removals and many of these families who were in favor of States Rights and/or slavery migrated to Alabama. Both groups established churches wherever they settled. Some of these churches actually changed denomination due to a shortage of preachers in the wilderness. In later years, especially around centennial celebrations, many churches published a church history to commemorate their founding. I have purchased a few of these from some churches and they are invaluable little tools in family research, since the information contained therein was mostly contributed by descendants of early members and contains a lot of personal details not always found in the archives of church headquarters. My question: Does anyone know of any of these booklets having been published by any of the churches in the Union Springs area, or can you furnished any addresses so that we might write directly to the church? I am particularly interested in the early Presbyterian churches. Thank you, Evelyn Leslie
