    1. [ALBULLOCK] Bullock County Court House
    2. Response to Annette's comments Finding anything in Bullock is a miricle. The early marriage records are filed by date. If you don't have a date, you don't have a prayer! >>>I did not find that to be true. The marriage records date back to the mid-late 1800's, Blacks and whites are in two separate books and they are alphabetized. The records are not difficult to use until the 1930's when all records are kept in the same book. The new books are not alphabetized and no appendix is included. I was told that all their census and vital data had been sent Montomery. >>>Census records are in Montgomery, approx a 30-45 minute ride away. Trying to find anything there is very difficult--except for land records and mortgages-- >>>I did not find the Court house difficult at all to use. There are indexed and alphabetized marriage records, birth records (difficult to follow, falling apart), death records, wills, 1898 Poll Tax records, prison records, hospital records, and voters registration records plus others. However, this is all that I can remember at this time. with only two clerks hanging about, getting any kind of knowledgable help is almost non-existant. >>>I found the clerks to be very friendly and helpful. However, they cannot spend the day in the back room with us. They were willing to assist me when I asked. They even pulled heavy books from the top shelves for me. You do need to spend a couple of days at a time there. I have been there on 4 or 5 separate occasions and sometimes have stayed all day from opening to close. I have even taken in a soda and candy bar in case I became so engrossed that I did not want to leave for lunch. If you are researching Bullock County, the court house is a must. Also, stop at the library down the street. They have a small genealogy section. They also have on file some alphabetized birth and death records published by the local historian and placed in the library for our use. Good luck on your research. On an ancestral journey Emily
