Hello, I am researching the Thorntons and the Pipkins of Bullock Co., AL. I recently sent a note to the county courthouse, hoping for a couple of probate records. I received a courteous reply from Judge Williamson, informing me they did not have the staff to do any digging. However, if someone appears in person, they would gladly show them where the records are located. So, it appears to be a do-it-yourself project. My questions to the group: I know the Barbour Co. courthouse contacts a local researcher who will do look ups for a nominal fee. I am wondering if any one knows of a Bullock county probate hunter? Does anyone have an index for Bullock Co. probate? Unfortunately, I am not entirely certain my relatives filed in Bullock or Barbour Co.. These are my culprits: Haywood Pipkin (d. 26 Jun 1893) Jesse Pipkin (d. 23 Jul 1882) (I'm more confident the Pipkins filed in Bullock). Rhoda Thornton (d. 6 Mar 1869) Nathaniel H. Thornton (d. 13 Jul 1885) (Of course, I didn't send all four queries to the courthouse at once.) I'm from out of state - so the Alabama Archives would clip me pretty good for the documents. I just thought I'd ask around to see if there's a way around it. Of course, a road trip this fall would be timely...
