I am descended through Stephen Boswell's daughter, Elander Boswell who married William Bruce. Stephen Boswell is a son of Thomas Boswell born between 1760 and 1764. It appears that Thomas Boswell Boswell is a son of Henry Boswell, born about 1740. Thanks John B. Windham

    1. [ALBULLOCK] Thomas Family
    2. Your Name
    3. Those researching the Thomas family in the neighborhood of Smuteye will probably be interested in the close relationship between the Cope and Thomas families and their migration patterns. The Copes migrated from Richmond County, NC and settled in the area south of Union Springs. At both locations, Richmond County, NC and Bullock County, Alabama, there were Thomas families closely associated with the Copes. Samuel Cope and his sons arrived in Alabama in time for the boys to take part in the Creek Indian War. A check of Indian War records available from the National Archives will probably provide information on the Thomas clan. Samuel Cope's widow (his 3rd or 4th widow) Sarah Hearn Cope married a neighbor William Thomas. Witnesses to Samuel's last will and testament were Malcom Blue, James Thomas and Murdock Gillis. Back in North Carolina a Cope neighbor William Thomas had applied for and received a pension for service in the Revolutionary War. Also receiving a pension for service in the same units was Samuel Cope's father-in-law (first marriage) Thomas Everitt. These families are very closely tied to each other by place of residence, by marriages, by service in the Revolutionary War and by census records. I tend to believe that William Thomas of Bullock County, who married Sarah Hearn Cope, might be the grandson of Revolutionary soldier William Thomas of Richmond County, NC. For those curious about a Scotland connection might find it interesting that one of the counties bordering Richmond County, NC is Scotland County.

    3. CARRIE THOMAS, I WAS TRYING TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CONNECTION THAT WE SEEM TO HAVE. DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR THOMAS' CAME FROM SCOTLAND? I HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO OUR WILKERSON LINE . WHEN I FOUND A 1880 ARK. CENSUS, I FOUND MY G-GRANDFATHER AND HIS MOTHER. THEY LISTED HIS FATHER BORN IN SCOTLAND, HIS MOTHER BORN IN N.C. HE WAS BORN IN ALABAMA. WE KNEW FROM FAMILY STORIES THAT THEY WENT TO ARK. FROM UNION SPRINGS, ALA. WELL WHEN I GOT TO CHECKING, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A VERY LARGE SCOTISH POPULATION IN THIS AREA AT THE TIME THEY STILL LIVED THERE. THE NAME OF THE COMMUNITIES IS EVIDENCE OT THIS. THERE IS SCOTLAND, PEROTE, ABERFOIL, INVERNESS. MY DAUGHTER AND I WENT TO UNION SPRINGS LAST MONTH, WE FOUND NOTHING TO HELP OUR RESEARCH, BUT WE WERE TOLD THATY THE BULLOCK CO. COURTHOUSE WAS WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE GONE AND WE WENT TO PIKE CO. NOW WE KNOW. WE PLAN TO GO BACK. IT IS ABOUT 2 HRS. FROM ME. I TOO AM A ARKANSAS NATIVE. IWAS RAISED IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, BUT MY MOM LIVES IN CROSSETT ARK. NOW. IT IS IN ASHLEY CO. WHICH IS IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER. MY MOM LIVES 9 MI. FROM LA. AND ABOUT 40 MI. FROM MISS. LINE, IT SEEMS THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF THE SCOTISH PEOPLE IMMIGRATED TO SOUTH ARK. THE ONES THAT WENT WITH THE WILKERSONS' WERE, MC MILLAN, SMITH, MCKINNON, GRISWOLD. THERE ARE LOTS OF CEMETERY RECORDS IN THIS SITE. I'M SURE YOU HAVE CHECKED THEM. THE PEOPLE OF BULLOCK CO. ARE SO NICE. ALSO THE LIBRARY GENEALOGY STAFF OF PIKE CO. I HOPE YOU GET THERE, I DON'T THINK YOU 'LL BE SORRY. IF I KNEW MORE ABOUT ALL THIS I WOULD BE GLAD TO LOOK IT UP FOR YOU. I AM SO NEW AT THIS, I AM NOT ALL THAT SUCESSFUL!!!! I WOULD BE GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU OFF THIS SITE. IF YOU WANT TO GET ME PRIVATLY MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS rjones@hopper.net.WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD GEN. 3. RJones, It looks like your questions may have been directed to me..but not sure...I am not in AR at the moment..though it is my home. I am in Wichita, KS. My immediate family is in Union Cty, AR where they moved from Sebastian Cty, AR. which is where my direct line migrated to from AL. There were, however, several brothers and sisters to my gg-grandfather who did not move to that area and I am looking for them. I did find two cemetery listings....Lorenzo Thomas and WH Thomas...who may be from my line but I must investigate further to know for sure. I don't have access to many Al records here...no census records at all for Pike, Bullock and Barbour Ctys. I think I'm going to order in the CD's and go ahead and transcribe them for the web...since I'll have them anyway. Now to find land, marriage and probate records! How I wish I could make a trip to the area! There were so many Thomas' there from 1830/40 to at least 1870 and I have found no clues as to where in SC they migrated from...I have few marriages for their children...I know only of marriages to a SHAW, MORRISON, and GILMORE. From my James and Mary Thomas, I have four children; but think there are more that I have missed and these four children had a total of about 16 children that I know of...so I am lacking in a lot of data from AL.
