I am trying to find information on Dr. N. B. (Neal Bethune, we think) McLean. He was married to Sarah Carmichael, daughter of Malcolm M. Carmichael and Nancy Oswalt Carmichael of Chesson or Cross Keys. Dr. McLean died sometime in the months just before my husband's grandmother Nancy (Nannie) Neal McLean (later to be Mrs. W.P. Hufham of Fitzpatrick) was born on 2-14-1864. We can find no information about him except that we have have his diploma showing that he received his medical degree from the Univ. of Nashville (later to become the Univ. of Tennessee Medical College) in 1859. Since he apparently died in late 1863 or early 1864, it seems a good possibility that he died in the Civil War, but we don't know that. We have read only one reference to him in an old funeral write-up, that referred to him as being from Perote. Thanks for any information that you might have. Jean Hufham jhuf@ala.net

Some of our Raborn kin are buried there, and Grandmother Mary Lula Raborn married Grandpa John D. Leslie in this church. We visited the cemetery a couple of years ago and it was extremely well kept at that time. Since the Leslies were Presbyterian they attended church there with their family after their marriage. I had asked about a history of the Presbyterian Church in Union Springs before but didn't really get any information. Does anyone have a mailing address for the Presbyterian Church in Union Springs? The GRIDER, HEAD, WATTS, and BOSWELL families all seem to have been associated with this church, and are buried in its cemetery. Can anyone tell me if the early records of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church have survived, and if so, where they are located? Generally, such records are in the custody of the clerk of the church--does anyone know who that might be? --Ron Head (Montgomery, AL)
As the days draw nearer to my family vacation to Bullock county Alabama, I'm excited to share this with each of you: In the late 1850's in Pike (now Bullock County Alabama), a slave owner named Robert McGrady died and his slaves (Frances, Priscilla and there children) were distributed between his wife, children and an outsider. After emancipation, the slaves Frances took the surname of Cope and Priscilla took the surname of McGrady. I started my genealogical journey as a quest to get to know about my mother and my grandmother and how life was for them growing up in Alabama. I've now not only found 1000+ family members of whom I've never known, but the most exciting turn of events for me in this journey, will be meeting for the 1st time, other descendants of Francis and Priscilla, and also the a descendant of the slave owner Robert McGrady for a 2 week researching quest of our roots from July 5th - July 12th. For me, this is what GENEALOGY is all about. The sharing of history and events with those who understand the struggle of going it alone. I hope there are others who have such wonderful luck as I feel I have and will. delbra please feel to visit my website (which like genealogy is never completed :-) www.angelfire.com/ny4/bitsandpieces
