    2. Annie Phillips walked into the Herald Office last Wednesday and said, "I want to renew my paper." Mrs. Phillips is 101 years old and has been a Herald reader for over 50 years. She moved to Bullock County from Shorter in 1943. For a time she lived at Three Notch but now resides with her only daugheter, Lillie Banks, at Cade/Banks Circle just off Hwy.223. Mrs. Phillips was born January 1, 1900. She walks with a cane but almost forgot it when she was leaving the Herald Office. There is a picture of Annie paying for her paper.

    1. [AL-BULLOCK] Sedgefields Auction
    2. Union Springs Herald, Wednesday, May 9, 2001 An auction company from Gadsden, Alabama says that a date for auctioning off the Sedgefields property has not been set but likely will be within the next 90 days. Mike Fischer of National auction Group made that comment recently. It has been reported that $2 million was spent last year on the management and upkeep of Sedgefields Plantation. Some of these costs entailed mowing, feed and birds, maintaining the facilities and other expenditures-all directly benefitting the field trials held on the property. Rumors continue that the property will be divided into 17 parcels and sold but that has not been confirmed.

    1. [AL-BULLOCK] Sedgefields Plantation
    2. >From the Union Springs, AL Herald, Wednesday, May 2, 2001 Sedgefields may be for sale, but nothing has been "decided offically." Those were the words of Charlie Philips, President of Mid-State Land and Timber Col, who owns Sedgefields. Phillips' office is in Meridian, MS. "We have contemplated selling Sedgefields but we have not signed any agreements," Phillips said. "We are looking at the possibility. We are always looking at our investments to see what we need to do. We are reviewing whether to own and operate or sell." Asked who is in charge of the 13,000 plantation at this time, Phillips said Mark Gregg and Nan Sweeney are seeing after the day-to-day chores. Paul Broadhead, Sr. purchased Sedgefields in 1996 and at one time was considering using the property as a resort that would have attracted corporate business people to the plantation. Apparently those plans did not materialize. There have been many rumors about the sale of the property. Some auction companies have been in conversation with Mid-State but nothing has been signed officially.
