Is anyone else out there researching John Martin White (1818-1858) and his wife, Mary Anne Lovicy Jordan (1827-1878)? They lived in Uchee, Russell County, AL, and Glenville, Barbour County, AL and are buried at Midway. He was an attorney, justice of the peace and school teacher educated at University of Georgia in Athens. He died in 1858 of measles leaving his wife and eight children. My great grandfather, Adolphus Herndon White was his youngest. Mary A. L. Jordan was the daughter of Thomas George Jordan (d.1872 Bullock County, AL)and Mary Lovicy Chambless of Society Hill, Macon County, AL. She remarried William R. Long and had three more children, Beulah Malissa, Robert E. Lee and Mary Long. We know nothing of this set of Long children. I'd love to locate their descendants. Robert E. Lee Long lived in Dale County in 1900 and Geneva County in 1910 & 1920 per census. Anyone out there with help? Jackye Penney

I have a question about Barbour/Bullock cemeteries... I'm tracking down the Thornton and Pipkin families of Barbour/Bullock Co., AL. 1860 AL Census - Barbour Co. p.609;1016/1004 (7 Sep) Green H. Thornton 64m KY farmer (val. 6000/30000) Rhoda 54f GA R.B. 26m GA (val./4500) Green F. Cartledge 1m AL *I have his probate. 1850 AL Census - Barbour Co. p.179 (18 Oct) Haywood Pipkin 38m NC /1200 Eliza 29f NC Charles 13m GA (sch.) Mary 11f AL (sch.) Martha 8f AL (sch.) Frances 6f AL (sch.) Caroline 6/12f AL Two of Green's sons married two of Haywood's daughters. I have Green H. Thornton's probate from Barbour Co.. I just sent for Haywood Pipkin's will from Bullock Co.. At Midway Cemetery, there is apparently an unmarked Pipkin section. I wonder if there was a list kept by the cemetery itself? I've not found any of my Thorntons buried in the Barbour/Bullock cemeteries posted on the web. Any ideas? (I certainly hope they didn't bury these folks in the back yard!) Any ideas or comments would be most appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Angela Formal birth/death records were not recorded until 1908. Some midwife records are on microfilm at the archive. You may be able to locate death records on the Alabama Death Index which lists names, county, state etc. Birth/death records should be obtainable for genealogical purposes under the privacy act. I have never had a problem getting any whether via mail or in-house during my research trips. The Archive in Montgomery will do a search for you of certain records for a $20 fee. You can download the form off of their website at www.arcives.state.al.us. The Bullock County Court House in Union Springs, AL has marriage records on file dating back to the mid 1800's. Can't remember the birth/dearth record dates...but they go back to early 1900's Call and ask if they can look up a birth/death/marriage record for you. There may be a fee for the service. Sorry, I don't have the court house phone number available at this time. Good luck. Emily > How would I go about getting a maiden for my gggrandmother Katie, who was > married to one Sam Rouse?
