    1. Penile Methodist Church cemetery
    2. I'm looking for information on the condition of Penile Methodist Church and it's cemetery. It may not be in use now because I can't get an address or phone number for it. It is located in Bullock county just northwest of Thompson (maybe only about 21/2 away). It is an area close to the Macon county border. My relatives are buried there. The Grahams, Smiths and Fitzpatricks. I plan to visit the area in about three weeks and would like to know what to expect. Thanks for taking to time to read this query. JoAnn

    1. Cemeteries in Midway Al, Bullock Co.
    2. Cynthia Kirkland
    3. Is anyone familiar with the cemeteries in or around Midway, AL in Bullock Co.. My great great grandmother, Frances "Fannie" Sims died 7-13-1853 in Midway, Al. She was born, Frances Bottoms, in 1823 in GA and married M. R. (Malachi Reaves) Sims in Pike Co. GA 12-22-1842. In 1850 they migrated to Barbour Co. with their young son, James Monroe Sims (my great grandfather). She died not long after her fifth child, Sarah was born. Sarah Frances followed her to the grave just one month later, 8-24-1853. The other three children were, Mark Washington, Mary Ann Elizabeth and John Martin. Midway was in Barbour co. at the time of Frances' death in 1853, but Bullock Co. was formed in 1866 and Midway now resides in Bullock Co. For years I have been trying to find out how I can locate her grave, but cannot seem to find out about the cemeteries in or around Midway. There are 7 Midways in AL, this is the one in Bullock. Co. near the Barbour Co. line. If anyone can help me locate her gravesite, or can put me in contact with a way to find out about the cemeteries in and around this Midway, I would be very appreciative. 1. Gracious Hosts,Thank You
    2. To John & Jan Radford Thanks so much for hosting the lists and giving all of us subscribers an opportunity to find each other and share what we have. You and Rootsweb have done us all a service that we are starting to take for granted. It is mindboggling to me how this thing has grown in the last year or so since I subscribed to my first list. I am now paying attention to what it has cost some of you in time and dollars and plan to send a thank you to Rootsweb which includes a small check that we can afford. Hope some others will think about it, also. Thank you very much - you are true "pioneers of the internet", just as the pioneers in our family histories that we seek and often find through the avenues you have provided. Evelyn and Ed Leslie

    1. Web Photo Project
    2. Delbra Barr
    3. Hello everyone. This is where things are standing with the POSSIBLE Old Photos Project that was discussed last week. I am glad to see there were sooooo many people interested in seeing a project like this get off the ground. I am not saying I am the one to make it happen, but at this time, I am willing to be the coordinator or mediator of information. This is the summary of e-mails I received and so posted of this project to date: Caring for photos: http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/aic/treasure/photos.html http://archival.gaylord.com/TECHNICA/MARKIN.htm Possible providers for viewing new or existing photos web page: Rootsweb Server - english@c-zone.net www.gentime.com/genealogy/index.html http://drum.ncat.edu/~val/ Present sites with Photos availabel: www.geneagraphx.com/leaves.htm Scanning of photos for printing purposes: jgjones5@fus.net My present suggestions: 1. I believe the service should be coordinated in a way that people will go to STATE/COUNTY/YEAR TIME FRAME/ and SUBJECT MATTER Types of Subject Matter: Military, school, family gatherings, Hard at work photos, surname and holder of Photo and even Special Events for that time era. etc. Sometimes the holder of the photo may be someone your trying to find because your party had a connection with their, etc. I don't believe they should be sorted out by culture. That would make viewing and sorting them VERY DIFFICULT and a lot of work. At this time, before anything else is done, I would like to know those who would be interested in mainting the site for their STATE AND COUNTY. The subject could be decided upon later. Before such a thing could exist, there would need to be great number of people involved. Definitley not someone from every state, but at least a couple from the souther states like GA, FL, ALA, and even a couple that someone could convince us should be done. I appologize for such the long message, but I am doing my best to give thanks to those of you who really were interested in this project and even volunteered to assist. I look to hear from you soon. delbra I look to hear from you soon. delbra

    3. It seems no one trying to identify their indian heritage has had any luck. I would like to hear of some actual SUCCESS stories of having had afro-american and Indian heritage for the deep south parts of Alabama. Especially my area of Bullock, Pike and Macon, how you found out, and what did you do with the information after having done so. delbra delbra

    2. Since the list seems to have grown quite a bit, thought I'd ask again if anyone has any information on MARTIN/LOVELACE/CADE/RABORN families, especially in the Union Springs area. We have a couple of puzzles that we can't seem to clear up. Will gladly share the information we already have on them. Evelyn Leslie

    3. My g.grandmother died in 1939 when my grandmother was only 16 years old. I have a copy of her death certificate. My question is from her death certificate, I am able to determine who the doctor was that tended to her and I'm quite sure she was probably seen before that. What happens to these records and are they public knowledge. wledge.

    1. Unusual name
    2. Delbra Barr
    3. My grandmother shared with me that one of her mother's siblings name was " Emma marlila lusena lusana sasherlee Elizabeth Frances Coope. According to the 1880, 1900 census, there was listed a Sasherlee Cope in the home of her father "Peter Cope". Well after much hard work, I finally determined this Sasherlee was in fact my grandmother's mother "Elizabeth Frances Cope" I don't know why she chose to spell it COOPE or who was she named for. Anyone with any family members with the names of sasherlee, marlila, lusana, please share who they were. I am quite sure her mother who was the Lucy Bailey named her after some of her (speculated) indian family members. delbra bers. delbra

    3. There were soooo many people having responded to this idea, that I thought it would be best to submit my replies this way. There were 2 up and running websites either having a link dedicated to such a project as this, or willing to provide the space for such. Many people replied that had some very interesting photographs. I have e-mailed the two sites and asked them WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE. Please know that your messages were not overlooked, and diffinitely not forgotten. delbra en. delbra
